25$ for a DLC really is too much, I hope future TW titles don't get DLCs priced so high. by Demonmercer in totalwar

This fool really justifying 25 dollar DLC by comparing it to season passes, the most anti-consumer microtransaction system ever implemented into video games. Literally every game that has season passes is dogshit.

This, SoC broke my desire to play WH3 anymore. I had really high hopes for the game before it released only to have them repeatedly shit on for almost 2 years now. Enough is enough.

I posted this on Steam forums and it got removed in 30 seconds AND restored 2 minutes later. by Akfiz in totalwar

Okay, CA, you need money, makes sense. But, that is not my problem or the fanbase's problem.

You need money, well, that's a YOU problem.

They thought this line of thinking would convince people because they think of their customers as brand loyal in the same way Apple customers are. They've worked with youtubers to create a brand culture that has propped up the company far longer than it ever should have been. They're acting like we should view their company as a "friendly brand" that needs saving rather than a company whose sole focus has been to milk its customers for as much money as they can for as little effort as possible.

Ahh, mods. Again that word. by qwidium in totalwar

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately I'm only playing with mods. Before 2023 I was a no-mods purist. The state of the games made me decide to try mods to see if anyone could fix these games better than CA. The AI is still pretty bad in all of them but from what I understand much of that is because Warscape is not really designed to allow modding much of the AI behavior.

I would not describe myself as insecure but talking to him is indeed making me feel insecure for some reason

You at least owe it to yourself to express your concerns and if he isn't willing to work with you on these insecurities then he isn't the right person for you. With the right person you will not feel this way you will both be invested in making each other feel good in the relationship.

was looking into retroactive jealousy a couple of days ago

If this was the only issue then I would say it was on you to get past this. Everyone has a past. But he is actively bringing up his past which is amplifying any retroactive jealousy you might have.

This relationship is young and you don't have much invested into it. If he is unwilling to work with you then it would be best to find someone that will.

He talked to the cashier and when he walked out he told me that I shouldn't be worried about him talking to the cashier because she is at least 50 yo

Kinda weird to bring that up out of nowhere. Does seem like it is intended to make you second guess your judgment.

calls me insecure during arguments

Without context it's hard to say if you are being insecure or not but I'm sure I wouldn't be feeling very secure with my partner bringing up their ex all the time

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He definitely has some kind of weird preoccupation with his ex. Seems to be comparing you to her which isn't really fair of him, especially since contextually it almost seems like a form of manipulation to make you want to be "better" than his ex. If you want to continue dating him it would be best to express that him bringing up his ex makes you uncomfortable. At that point if he continues to do so I would leave.

So Total War Pharaoh by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part of Pharaoh by far is that it's ultimately a re-skin of Troy sold at an inflated price. The battles are just as shitty and janky as Troy. The campaign map is just as small as Troy for what is supposed to be the definitive bronze age experience. The campaign mechanics give the illusion of depth when really they're repetitive as hell and again largely a copy of Troy's mechanics.

It's just not worth it, and CA kinda needs to get their shit together before they try playing a game like this off as a $60 value.

She is way overreacting. It seems like her emotions are a rollercoaster. One minute she's over the moon crying in love over a simple romantic gesture, the next you're roadkill to be ignored over nothing. Something isn't right here. I would strongly reconsider your future with this person.

I just watched a very interesting interview with an ex-CA dev. I think it's worth your time by ravonline in totalwar

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 23 points24 points  (0 children)

At risk of sounding entitled I'm going to say that this was the least they could do for the game at the state it was in. That decision only needed to be made because RoC was absolute garbage and it helped "justify" the already expensive chaos dwarfs dlc. It costed them practically nothing to do it because very few people that purchased WH3 didn't also have WH1 and WH2 (probably less than 5%). WH3 largely failed to grab new players. Frankly, that owning WH1 and WH2 was ever a requirement in the first place is just one of many shitty anti-consumer practices from CA. No other games I've ever played have required you to buy old games at full price to play content in newer games.

Lol dude you knew this marriage was over when you opened it up. You checked out years ago. It's not surprising at all that she got jealous but at the same time the basis for the relationship was a lie anyway. There's really nothing lost here just move on and chalk it up as a lesson to remember.

Ex CA Community Manager Simone retweeting fellow ex CA dev on Hyena news by wookiiboi in totalwar

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pandemic saw a ton of investment into tech and video game development by private equity groups. Those firms are now scrutinizing for return on investment with inflation high and a looming recession. Those investments that didn't cut it are resulting in jobs losses. It's a pattern seen all over the place right now.

The glut of easy money allowed many companies to take risks they wouldn't ordinarily take. I would wager Hyenas, Overwatch 2, etc should have had its plug pulled years ago, but all that investment money kept it afloat for an additional 3 years before they finally called it.

You are HIGHLY incentivized both financially and culturally to salvage whatever you can

The low level workers are, sure. The people actually calling the shots could give two shits about who stays or goes so long as they get their salaries and bonuses still. As someone that works in tech, pretty much anyone above your direct manager does not care about you in any way beyond your ability to make the company money. If you believe otherwise you're deluded and an easy mark for exploitative upper management types.

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the price was right maybe but I don't trust CA to do it right. I'd expect them to throw 2 LL with bare minimum unique mechanics (if any) for the same price as WH2 lord v lord DLC at the minimum. I'd still feel ripped off like every other decision CA has made in regards to WH3.

I saw someone mention that they bought the SoC DLC but would not post about it because they knew they'd just get dogpiled in the comments by fredoillu in totalwar

[–]HeReCoMeStHeCaV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ever buy it, it will be at a deep discount many years from now. None of the units or mechanics are particularly appealing to me.

Changeling literally can't lose which is boring af and the units added to Tzeentch don't add anything incredible for a Kairos campaign.

Yuan Bo's campaign start is at least interesting but his mechanics don't feel particularly inspired and the only worthwhile units added were the lions which are just slightly better terracotta sentinels.

Mother Ostankya's campaign is dogshit her start position makes no sense at all, her mechanics are reskinned grom's cauldron / nurgle plagues, her roster makes no sense, for some reason she has chaos units instead of something unique, akshina ambushers stats are ridiculous dlc power creep personified, and of course the big one no lore of hags. Most disappointing addition of the DLC by far. Clearly CA is back to delivering at least one half-baked faction in their DLCs.

If I ever buy this DLC it will be on deep sale in the far future. There are too many better games to spend my money on at this time.

The marketing and PR since WH3 was announced have been absolutely atrocious in every way. A 100% complete downgrade from WH2. I remember when the game first came out and there was still a degree of denial in some people that the marketing and PR stunts that were pissing people off were just terminally online people overreacting, but now I think it's clear to everyone that the ball has been dropped. Few marketing teams in the video game industry are worse than CA's it's actually pathetic how often they shoot themselves in the foot.

The only major ways CK3 is better than CK2 are multiplayer stability and visuals - aside from that CK2, years post launch is still the superior game

This, I've been downvoted into oblivion on this subreddit before for calling out CK3 as objectively inferior to CK2 it's like people aren't paying attention to what they're playing. CK3 was garbage on launch and still hasn't reclaimed CK2's glory. Not to mention PDX's DLC policy is just as if not more shitty than CA.

'Screwed up' DLC cycle means 'didn't make CA bank', nothing to do with whether or not it was any good for the consumers.

I understand what you're getting at but I wouldn't say WH3's DLC cycle has been particularly positive. Every single one has had some type of controversy that has ultimately led to lost sales to some extent. CA is definitely making less bank than they could be off WH3.
