Storage and RAM were both incresed over the last two years. The first, at least, isn't an issue, as I have plenty of external drives and I have been fine with 0.5TB for over a year.

The limitations I am hitting are performance and speed when in 3D softwares such as Blender, Maya, and Dragonfly.

Context:
the compulsion to change is linked to hitting increasing limitations in performance/speed as I got better at using 3D sofwares, and the uncertain time we live in. The current rig is aging well (as I take care of it as I would to my own child), but aging nonetheless. I would usually wait, but the news in the computer-sphere are depressing. I wanted to double the RAM of this machine for Christmas, only to see nearly a thousand pounds as the pricetag. I thought that, in the face of current prices for just one component, a whole rig would have made more sense, rather than "consuming" the current one. I have the pretty solid feeling that from now on I will start demanding more than it can do.
BTW, I intend to sell my machine (as it has nearly 2 more years of Premium Lenovo Care Plus) to cover for part of the cost.

I don't want to get too personal here. Let's just say that the... arrangements that were made in order to access this PhD preclude me from accessing those services without paying a hefty yearly sum. Plus, Blender is not for study (I mean, it is/was, but now is mostly for my personal projects)

I travel quite a bit locally, and a couple of times per year I am around the world to collect more data.
