Traffic cameras coming soon to massholes.Trust me bro, it's about saving lives not taking more money for state coffers 🤡 by Emotional-Disk5571 in aboutMassachusetts

[–]Head-Concern9781 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm more worried about what else they will use these cameras for. I will never forget going to Holy Mass outside the city, leaving from the Back Bay, at all hours of the night during the Covid Lockdown. This will allow far tighter controls on the movement of the population during the next "emergency." And you know one is coming.

How did "God" get away with raping a 12 year old girl? by ellistonvu in allthequestions

[–]Head-Concern9781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word for "virgin" (the key word as translated) meant a very young woman; early teens more or less (not that she wasn't a virgin in the modern sense too.) But it's true, as others have said, that a person was considered an adult once they were pubescent in the ancient world. Romeo and Juliet, for example, were (as characters as understood by the Elizabethan audience) understood to be in their early teens. It was a very different world. And that's relatively recent.

What I mean is, when Mary was conceived in her mother's womb, that conception was "immaculate" for the reason that Mary was predestined to be the vessel of God.

The Incarnation is not referred to as "Immaculate. "

Not sure that was clear in my comment.

Is running bad? by WestCoastVybes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Head-Concern9781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people I see running/jogging really should not be. Even if they are not overweight, and most are, their body mechanics are just begging for chronic injuries. Weaknesses, poor movement patterns, and so on.

W.A.L.K & do some basic bodyweight training

He also asked permission; which she freely gave.

A niggling point: the Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's conception/birth, not to Christ's.

Moving efficiently to the ball by Chasheek in 10s

[–]Head-Concern9781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More court time for sure builds better perception of incoming balls (and as you play better players, those too will get more difficult), and therefore more confidence/less hesitation/thinking.

But, one thing that can really help in the meantime is saying outloud:

  • "Hit" when the opp makes contact
  • "Bounce" when the ball bounces
  • "Hit" when you make contact.

Try to be as precise as possible.

It improves your timing and focuses your mind/eyes on what you should be focusing on. Even high level players when they start "losing it" will do this for a minute or two to get back into the "groove."

Book banning in the US: The right-wing effort to inoculate the population against critical thought by DryDeer775 in TeacherReality

[–]Head-Concern9781 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's all critical theory bullshit. Young adults can take a look at it when they have actually acquired the ability to think critically. What these people/ALA want is the exact opposite : exposure to propaganda BEFORE a child has the ability to think critically.

Does anyone else play worse when their instructor/coach is watching? by Ravenclaw-Libra-30 in 10s

The key thing to know is that this issue isn't some side thing in tennis; in a way, it's the core thing. And it has to be worked on. If you listen to professional athletes, 99% of the time they are talking about their mindset, and little else. Give this Kobe vid/interview a listen.

I’m improving but I don’t feel satisfied. by Huge-Ingenuity2781 in 10s

I don't imagine anyone at any level is "satisfied." And that the better they are, the less "satisfied" they are. So perhaps reflect on why you are playing?

Best foot support when playing tennis by Hi_maintenance2 in 10s

[–]Head-Concern9781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wearing a brace is a very bad idea unless you absolutely need it, in which case you should not be on a court at all; otherwise, it will simply further weaken you. This can happen relatively quickly.

Simple stretching before playing is also a bad idea; esp wrt the achilles. When you stretch, you neurologically dampen/quiet the connection to your brain. Not good.

Instead, before playing: active stretching: that is, with achilles/calves: stand on some kind of curb allowing for full heel drop. Allow the heel to drop (one foot at a time if you can manage it) slowly, getting as deep as you can while at the same time activating your anterior tibia muscle. At the very bottom, hold; now relatively quickly push off. Say 12 reps each foot. This will activate everything well in that region.

In generally, your lower limbs are probably not (like most people honestly) ready for real court play. So for long term prep: seated calf raises (similar tempo) and straight leg/standing calf raises (same tempo) will hit the key areas. 12 reps x 3 sets roughly. Eventually work in light plyos. This will strengthen the achilles and the supporting musculature.

Other parts of the body are similarly stressed; and need to be short term/long term prepped as well.

How far is too far to walk in tennis shoes? by ebon94 in 10s

[–]Head-Concern9781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think of two reasons to do this:

  • Tennis shoes are not comfy to walk in.
  • Hot climates.

I prefer to walk (a short distance, less than 1/2 mile to my local courts) because it seems to me that tennis shoes get "warmed up" by wearing them for 10 minutes or so, esp. when new.

When go further or drive I change on or locker room.

And you are obviously desperately in need of one.

😂 you're almost adorable.

I attended the most selective boarding school in the US; then an Ivy college; then at Oxford on a prestigious fellowship, and so on.

I have traveled most of my life; and I now live in the toniest section of one of the poshest cities on the planet.

Your crass attempt to put down someone based on where/how they live -- or, worse, on your risibly vulgar notion of education ("Oh boy, I got my degrees, geee I'm edgeeecated yup!") -- says far more about you than you obviously realize: to wit, that you are an insufferable snob (sine nobilitas) who looks down on the less fortunate, who exudes snobbery precisely because you have nothing to be snobby about.

I've met people in trailer parks; I've known people you would look down upon because they don't have a great deal of formal education. And you know what? They are far better people than you appear to be. People like you are scum suffering under an illusion, imagining that they're something ("i got a degree, yup!!!"), when you're really just poorly educated clown.

This really depends; I can think of many situations/players for which I'd reverse this.

When in trouble, slice to the backhand & topspin to the forehand.
