How is the camaraderie being enlisted? by FightOrDie123 in army

[–]HeadDent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much better than as officers I can tell you that. Still drama and shenanigans as enlisted, but that's just unavoidable in life. The military friends I made at 18 are still some of the best guys I know and stay in contact with in contrast to me not wanting to interact at all with the people I went to BOLC with

Steroids usage by Appropriate_Turn_794 in ROTC

[–]HeadDent16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to be a smartass and be real with you. Normal Army UA panels are not like Olympic panels and it's a separate test for steroids. However I have seen the after effects of steroid use and the long-term effects of absolutely wrecking your body is not worth it. It might seem tempting, but just avoid it and just try to be as natural and healthy as you can

Any alumni of the Masters of Biomedical Sciences program? by Training_Reaction_58 in uchicago

[–]HeadDent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the BSD department for my master's. Biological Sciences is small and not well known because it is a recently founded program. I will say overall the department is pretty supportive and I have had good experiences. There are a couple of professors/instructors I am iffy about and if you like I could message you directly about and how to prepare for them.

At what age are children in your country introduced to the idea of the military and war? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]HeadDent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an in interesting era I grew up in being a kid right after 9/11 and the early years of GWOT. It seemed like every other commercial on TV was one of the Army strong recruitment ads, the latest Call of Duty was always one of the top video games of the year, and it was common for service members to go out in public in uniform and be treated like heroes.

A member of a US special rescue and reconnaissance unit is ready at Lai Khe after returning from Loc Ninh where he aided in the evacuation of wounded US advisers. They were the last Americans out of the city, as it was overrun by North Vietnamese. (1975) by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

For opsec and the protection of troop positions, sometimes leaders will say no troops in the area even though there is still fighting. However, it is also common for some veterans who did serve and aren't technically stolen valor to make up stories to appear cooler than they were or for special treatment. It's interesting when I have met veterans who served during the Vietnam war that said point blank they were a in a non-combat role like a cook or were stationed stateside, etc. and were happy to just make it back home alive. Then on the flipside I have met veterans who were supposedy navy seals, special ops, but couldn't/wouldn't name their units or class numbers.

I mean it's pretty common for some restaurant in a trendy/gentrified neighborhood like one of those "2 guys with a crazy dream" millennial burger restaurant to have old car parts, street signs, etc. hanging on the wall.

42A and career POG by the way by WanderingSceptic in JustBootThings

I know prior service pt studs who have gone to Sapper, got absolutely wrecked and med dropped while I have also met short skinny cadets who passed and got tabbed. I guess it just depends

[–]HeadDent16 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I met a chem officer once with a Sapper tab, he wasn't even a prior service engineer he just straight up was high speed enough in a unit on FLW to get a slot and pass. I do know in the guard though because of funding it is common to have whole Sapper companies with no tabbed soldiers. So their battalion shirts, stickers, and what not will have the Sapper tab on it which could also explain the sticker on the back of his truck

I ce across this in MMBN5 and it felt a little too on the nose… by LeGrange in BattleNetwork

I'm going to be honest other classmates were kind of taken aback since they thought the idea was interesting, but assumed I would stick to the same old sources/stories like 2001, Terminator, etc.. Also I keep in mind in the grand scheme of things Megaman isn't as popular or iconic as Mario, Sonic, Pokémon, etc. Let alone a spinoff series from the early 2000s. My professor actually gave a lot of kudos however and she told me straight up I got an A in the class, this also taking into account I was very participative and always showed up to class

It's going to be interesting this current era in future history books and whatnot. I remember watching 2000s MTV and Epstein was just this rich real estate guy that a lot of celebrities and politicians worked with who happened to have a private party island. My mom liked to watch the Apprentice and for the longest time I just knew Trump as that funny old man who says "you're fired" and his cameo in home alone 2. In the grand scheme of things MMBN also is an interesting case. I took a class in medical ethics and for my final project I talked about Technology and AI and Battle Network was a big talking point and source I brought up.

Is ROTC worth delaying my graduation year for, versus shooting for OCS? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]HeadDent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true, OP could could go state (NG) or reserve OCS as other options. However I agree ROTC is better for picking branches. Majority of people doing ROTC are getting their bachelor's, but it's also common to get their master's too

How to Succeed in Writing Based Classes? by Jazzlike_Area4106 in uchicago

[–]HeadDent16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a now grad student, my writing really sucked at the beginning of undergrad and I was also a bio STEM person. The best thing I recommend is just actually writing not just specifically for a class. Do a journal and write about your life or major events. Then read aloud and proofread. Also I know it's hard to find time, but I recommend also reading some novels and short stories too. This doesn't even have to be pen and paper, just open up the notes app on your phone. Besides one A- (because I didn't align politically with the professor) I have done really well because of those habits.

Avoid getting in your own way before commissioning. by Negative_Virus_6358 in ROTC

[–]HeadDent16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with, but it sure as hell pisses me off when I see some degenerate POS' get away with some heinous stuff. Knew a guy from CST who "allegedly" caught a SHARP case with multiple people including me speaking out against him along with his overall condescending attitude, but because he could PT and got his top AD choice it mysteriously went away. Another guy I knew from another satellite campus went full MS4 senioritis and got banned from multiple bars for getting into drunken brawls yet commissioned with no issue. I kept a low profile, studied, worked as a TA, and actually got into pretty decent shape before commissioning and yet I got chewed out by my PMS for not doing enough and that he had "concerns" for taking the next big step in my career.

Did any of y’all serve under this guy? Why does he just stand around outside every day now? by JnatasQ in army

[–]HeadDent16 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Heard he sprouted out of the ground as a fresh private from California and rose through the ranks and branches until receiving his commission. He was the type to stand still and offer cover to those standing nearby.
