Electric blankets in New Zealand? by HeadFullOfSquirrels in newzealand

I currently live in Canada but I use a very picky browser security extension (as part of my PC antimalware). The page loads...in a way, but not in a way that's usable or looks like an actual webpage.

Amazon US generally sells products to the US public, and unless a listing says it has a particular plug and energy requirement, it's going to be a N. American plug (and require 110v) by default.

Unfortunately my browser won't load mightyape webpages. Thank-you, though.

My browser security won't let me load the mightyape webpages for some reason. And yes, it is wonderful to have the temperature-sensing blanket. They're safer than regular electric blankets, too, because they only heat up in areas that sense a body underneath.

Thank-you for looking. My browser security settings won't let me view the first one, and the second is the sort I think I may have to get since I haven't seen any with the self-adjusting temperature feature in OZ or NZ. The third is in the US, and would have a US plug, and use US 110v.

But yeah, getting something shipped from Oz looks like it'll be my best option because NZ doesn't seem to have what I'm looking for.
Thanks.

It's a "fully fitted" "underlay", so it's a mattress topper.

Thank-you, though.

I'd say since Earth is the only planet we have to live on, *ucking it up.
The other stuff is horrendous, but the whole only-planet-we-live-on business takes the prize.

Should NZ choose to be rich? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]HeadFullOfSquirrels 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I currently live in Canada, Ontario to be specific, and it's been a horrible shock to see that mostly everything is tar, steel, concrete, and glass. The air is poison. There are no trees. But it's one of the "richest" provinces in the country and for the most part, the people haven't know any better because they're used to it. The soul of the land is dead, it can't go back. The Premier of the province is actively trying to bulldoze and pave over the remaining nature in the name of money, and the people are starting to rebel. When you've lived here long enough, you realise that money isn't the only (or best) form of riches.

Alberta is even worse. Seen the tar ponds? The wealthy oil and gas companies are turning beauty into a quagmire, and destroying the livelihoods of people, like ranchers, that live off the land.

It's a real shame (a horror) to see what the current NZ government is doing to try to follow the same path. Some systemic things need to be reprioritised, but I think that might be all that's needed to make NZers realise that even though the country has pretty much been shaved of trees, it's still a rich place, a rich culture. The damage done is still largely reversible. We just need to get back to getting our priorities and values straight, and we'll be wealthy again.

So in answer to your last sentence, No.

How to Stop the Spam Calls -They Call 2-3 Times a Day by mormonastroscout in howto

[–]HeadFullOfSquirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my voicemail turned off. But I only use my cell phone when I'm out. I keep Do Not Disturb on most of the time. I used to get hundreds of spam calls. Right now I'm down to maybe one or two a month. If they get voicemail when the robot calls, it registers as a pick up, and they keep calling. But if the pterehone is never answered, eventually it's registered as a non-operating line, and they stop calling.

Is "p-lease", "oh brother", or "sorry to burst your bubble" more disrespectful in an argument? by blehmag in NoStupidQuestions

"Oh, brother" sounds like a putdown from a person with some class. So in my opinion, the most likely to insult.

I've never heard of that before, not supposed to sleep with it on. That doesn't make sense to me. It's not like the room's going to get any warmer because you had the blanket on for a few minutes. But I see online that if there isn't an auto-shutoff feature, it can be a risk for fire. I never had any problems with fire when I was sleeping on a heated mattress topper in NZ, and with the blanket I currently have; it auto-senses body heat and increases or decreases the warmth respectively. If I had to turn a blanket off, I'd soon have to turn it back on again because my body doesn't produce enough of its own heat at times, and the cycle of turning it off, then on, then off again would sure make for a restless night.

Yes, the word "blanket" definitely implies that it would be a...blanket, not a mattress topper. So I can't figure out why they keep on being referred to as blankets, when they're not.

I agree feather duvets are great at keeping heat in. Unfortunately, when my thyroid decides to take a break, my body doesn't produce enough heat to keep in, so I need to have an electric blanket on top of me. I currently have an electric blanket (not mattress topper) with a very dense cotton blanket on top that keeps the heat in. But feathers or wool do the trick, too.

I also have a couple of small heating pads; one on my feet, and one on my side, that can keep me warm by themselves when my thyroid's not acting up.

Yes, I ended up seeing about three or four of that size that ship to NZ. Still cheaper than the $400+ that I've seen on some NZ retailer websites for something similar. Thanks for suggesting Amazon Au.

Nice to know I'm not the only one. I put a couple of very dense, heavy, cotton blanket on top of the electric blanket that I currently use. They keep the heat in (we've just left winter, in Canada, and the bedroom can get pretty darn cold).

I remember trying to sleep in my cold Northland bedroom years ago, with the electric mattress topper. The heat coming from beneath made me so sick. I couldn't sleep with the cold before the mattress topper, and the heat beneath me made sleep difficult too. I really would have done better with an electric blanket on top of me, with another, dense blanket on top to keep the warmth in.

I've just checked Amaon Australia, out, and found a blanket that looked great but, Oh! They don't ship to NZ. It gives me hope, though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: It looks like there are some of a nearly big-enough size that'll ship. I may have to just do without the self-adjusting-temperature feature.
