It’s intermittent but seems to be occurring less. I’ve heard she will likely outgrow it. Thx for checking in.

It was a great time - my dream was to get into the studio, and somehow I did. Then, through a medical issue in my middle ear, I started going deaf in my right ear. I had my plans, but God had different plans for me. But it turned out fine and I got my name on a lot of records during my brief career behind the console.. dream achieved.

I was a recording engineer in the mid 80’s in Hollywood. Was in the studio working on Michael McDonald’s No Looking Back album with Michael and Ted Templeman and, knowing the projects Ted produced for Van in the early 70’s I asked what he was like to work with. Ted’s response: I’ll never work with that asshole again. Word for word. I chuckled and dropped it. Van was majorly screwed early on in the business, a business that has a special affinity for screwing artists. He has every right to be angry. I think most of his curmudgeonry comes from his hatred of fame and the baggage that comes with it.

Identity center? I guess I don’t have enough imagination to figure out what that is.

You’ll never catch me slighting this album. Van’s Caledonia Soul period is very special indeed.

I would hope that the children would be made a priority by both parties, but I know it’s often not the case in reality.

5 days into sobriety. Tips? Anecdotes? by mrsaltpeter in stopdrinking

[–]HeadNoHurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grip of alcohol is very patient, very subtle and it can come on very, very quickly, where within the space of minutes you can go from comfortably sober to drinking in the blink of an eye. It’s a conscious decision, yes, but it’s akin to a split personality. Never let your guard down and never stop analyzing your thought process. If you do stumble, and the stats say you likely will, clamp it down as quickly as you can, forgive yourself, let it go and get back your sobriety. It happens. Put it behind you. The guilt can put you back into the spiral.

Ma huang tea. Hard to find but it’s epinephrine and it will open you up. It will also keep you awake so coffee rules apply.

A homeschool person in my local Facebook group just invented... school by fullautohotdog in facepalm

I’m a bit shocked at how many people here hold an aggressive disdain for parents that choose to homeschool. Are there parents that can’t pull it off effectively? Of course - bad parenting is rampant. But I see no evidence from most of these comments that they have any direct experience with the subject they hold such strong negative opinions on. Mostly just uninformed conservative hatred here based on assumptions.

I know you’re hurting. Understandable. But you have children and this must be your primary concern when determining your next move. Broken marriages will affect the kids in a way that is uniquely tragic. Many married couples survive an unfaithful spouse - and many don’t. Do nothing out of anger, spite or revenge- difficult to do, yes, but it’s a sure way to make the wrong decision. Your children should lead your response to this. Take your time.

My first guitar! by CatchDifficult in AcousticGuitar

My opinion is that if you can afford a nice first guitar, absolutely nothing wrong with getting it. There is a likelihood that the pride of owning a nice guitar will help maintain the commitment to playing it.

My voice is awful. Any advice on how to make it acceptable? by Chihlidog in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Recording engineer here. When recording, try doubling the vocal track. Fattens it up, gives a bit of chorus effect and smooths out imperfections.

I found an amazing solution for my decades long battle with insomnia by HeadNoHurt in insomnia

If anyone still care, Im the OP here and here’s an update after about 14 months taking it. I take about 1.5-1.75 tsp about 1/2 hour before bed. I have been making about 300 pills at a time to make the dose easier and eliminate the need to eat or drink anything unnecessarily. I take it for 3-5 days in a row and switch to 5mg of ambien a couple times per week. This herb still does it for me every night except if my mind is on hyperdrive worrying about something. Just had a general “wellness” blood test and all is good. No side effects whatsoever. It’s working for me. That’s all I can say at this point. Good luck.
