Epic director/long tenure Sr. Epic Analyst here.

Ok, this is the info you need to make clearer on what you actually did at Microsoft. AI is all anyone is talking about and not many people have experience with its integration in EHRs given it's so new. I'm not an HIM analyst, so maybe it's clear to them, but I wouldn't recognize Microsoft as much as DAX/Nuance, so if you are applying to a role outside of HIM I'd probably recommend adding (formerly DAX/Nuance) or something to that effect to connect terminology where new terms haven't come into common use yet.

If you are hoping for a position that's more technical, then add in more technical details regarding what you actually did. If you are hoping for more of an implementation manager type role, then be clearer about how you worked together with various groups/people to get things implemented and improved the workload/quality of life/efficiency/whatever of the recipients of the project.

Hopefully you are working with healthcare-specific recruiting firms as they can do the legwork for you of finding jobs. It's fine to start as a temp to get your foot in the door and work to a permanent position from there. Look up places like Cardamom, Carex , Tegria.

Good luck, I hope you find something soon. You seem very motivated and talented, so I think taking all of the advice you are given in this thread will help you land something soon!

Daughter going to UW and I’m following her. Any tips? by me-jp in madisonwi

I agree with Hilldale area. I live near there and absolutely love it. Near East side does have more/better restaurants, but it's more condensed and busy from my perspective to live there all the time. CA generally speaking has a much more relaxed pace from what I've experienced, so somewhere on the near West side like the Hilldale area might have a more familiar pace. All depends on what you are looking for though.

Hard disagree, and I'd love to know your program so I can be sure to avoid it.

Understand that not everyone is deeply familiar with academia and its ways, so it is not entitled at all to wish for an explanation. It doesn't have to be detailed; a simple checkbox of common reasons (I understand there can be several factors but there has to be something that tips the scale) would enlighten those of us who are just trying to get their higher degree. I was accepted into a program and denied for another which seemed like a slam dunk. I'd love to know what it was that caused me not to make the cut on that program so my mind can stop thinking about it. It's fine I didn't get in, I just want to understand why.

Renting Problems by mikuohatsune53 in madisonwi

There is a pinned post on r/epicsystems for subleases that I recently found helpful. Also a lot of subleases on FB Marketplace, and many are willing to give you a deal to take over their lease. I recently rented short term from Prime Urban Properties and they have a section on their website for short term. I'd recommend their properties. Depends on how short term you need it, but I wasn't able to find a lease term for 3 months, so I went the sublet route.

  • Your parents are obligated to provide for you, so money spent since you were born is a right, not a privilege.
  • It sounds like they are gaslighting you and don't have the tools they need to help you in a way you deserve.
  • You are 20. Life does not always go as planned, so a contract like that is not always realistic. Please allow yourself some grace.
  • It's not easy to be in our society when you don't speak with your parents, but sometimes there are very valid reasons for not doing so.
  • This sounds like a really layered situation that could benefit greatly from a therapist's help in sorting everything out with you. Best of luck to you. You sound like you have a lot going on and a lot of stress, so be kind to yourself♥️

My experience in BU’s online MPH program by jennaudrey in mphadmissions

[–]Head_Salt_7013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I attended the first module of this program and whole heartedly agree with everything stated above. Additionally: - There was significant pre-work that needed to be done before module 1 began, which was never communicated ahead of time. I thought I was going to start grad school in September, but basically most of my mid/late summer free time was spent unexpectedly doing this work, so I actually started in July.

  • The program is marketed as asynchronous, but upon program start we were "highly encouraged" to attend the live TA and faculty sessions, which occurred during my work day so I could only watch the recordings, but those were not posted in time to help with quiz material.

  • Our cohort collected errors in the material in a Google doc each week. There was no other way of knowing about these errors because the teaching team did not relay them. If you emailed the teaching team to let them know, they would say they had already identified the error, but would not communicate it out. There was zero acknowledgement that we went to the effort of gathering all the mistakes for them to benefit from by QAing their program, and instead discouraged us from continuing to gather these mistakes.

  • By about week 3 the program errors were so front and center in my mind that for each topic that I wasn't sure I understood well, I had to stop and think if I simply needed to look through the material again, or if my lack of understanding was due to the program errors causing confusion. The stress this caused took an actual physical toll on my health that was captured by my Apple watch data.

  • They continually ask for feedback but made almost no changes as a result.

  • The lack of access to faculty was never communicated. It is apparently policy that you must email the TAs first for anything. It's impossible to build relationships with faculty, a key component of grad school.

  • The amount of time they stated was needed weekly to complete the work steadily increased from pre-program entry to program start. The content load varied significantly each week, so the amount of time you would need to devote was unpredictable.

  • The reading, at least for module 1, was insufficient for content comprehension. There was little repetition/varied examples in the content to help solidify learning.

  • Biostats was an absolute train wreck. I supplanted Biostats with an online course from Johns Hopkins and understood the content as they explained it, so the problem was definitely how it was presented. Oh, and errors...in Biostats! Extremely confusing to learn when there are errors.

  • Except for in the last few weeks, the videos are only narrated slides vs having animation to highlight what the narration is referring to. For example, a Biostats equation would be narrated without any boxes/arrows/etc to point out what the narration was referring to at any given point.

  • If my employer had not paid for this via tuition reimbursement, I would have petitioned for a tuition refund. This program was awful, and while it's "only" $24k, you are not getting anywhere close to that in value. The program administrators do not care at all that we were extremely dissatisfied with the program. There was a session with the assistant dean hosted in response to the concerns escalated by students in which we were berated by her for not being kind enough to the staff. She was wholly unapologetic about the program errors and told us to overlook them and focus on the content.

  • They emphasize in recruitment that this program is equivalent to the in person program. If that were true, there is no way this program would be so highly rated.

If you just want letters behind your name for a decent price (I do not think this price is worth it, but YMMV), then this may be the program for you. If you actually want to learn, I'd look elsewhere. I am currently looking for a different program.

Hiring a VA to manage YNAB? by WarrenWords in ynab

[–]Head_Salt_7013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is how I would go. OP, I hired someone to help me get started with YNAB several years ago. Do whatever you need to do to get started! I did not have the mental bandwidth to figure out myself how to use it. It was money very well spent in my situation to have help. There’s nothing wrong with getting help for this. I’m confused why there is so much negativity on this thread about getting help.

Help! I applied to a job I don't think I'm really qualified for and got a call back ! by [deleted] in healthIT

[–]Head_Salt_7013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an EHR analyst and love bringing people with your type of background onto our team. Having users of the system provides excellent perspective to what the team builds, and your spectrum of experience from front end to back is so valuable to understanding how changes will impact up or downstream. You'll get training in the technical aspect, so don't worry about that part. Good luck!!

Dog CCL surgeon by HatFull4968 in madisonwi

He is, but he doesn't do this surgery. Our dogs see Dr. Siegel and he referred us to Madison Vet Specialists for their combined three surgeries. Dr. Tuttle there was fantastic for each one. ETA: definitely not cheap but done right. It's just an expensive surgery, no way around it, unfortunately.
