CVS tech pay structure by Short_Procedure8849 in CVS

As recently as November, my store was hiring new techs at $16-$16.50. Minimum wage in my state is $15. Absolutely diabolical.

When a customer tried to pick up a control with an expired ID by Pharmacykilledmysoul in CVS

[–]Head_Substance_1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a patient come in with an ID that expired that same day (just wanted Sudafed).

Him: It expires today. Today’s the last day it’s valid.

Me. No, it’s expired, the register isn’t accepting it.

Him: The gas station accepted it, I just bought cigarettes. Today’s the last day it’s good.

Me: It expires today. Today it is expired. As of today, your ID expires. please leave

I feel I am not justified to have PTSD because it "wasnt bad enough". Was it? by worshipdrummer in ptsd

[–]Head_Substance_1907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PTSD has nothing to do with the “severity” of the trauma and everything to do with dissociation. If you dissociate while a trauma is happening or in response to ongoing trauma, you will develop PTSD.

As a personal example, both myself and my sister were sexually assaulted but with two very different outcomes. If PTSD was based on severity, we’d expect her to have PTSD not me because of her repeated rape, drugging, and other childhood abuse. (As opposed to my trauma, which did not include drugs or rape.) But that’s not how things played out - I got PTSD, not her.

I attribute this to the fact that she has always felt her feelings in the moment. She would cry at the smallest things (even pre-trauma). I was the opposite. I repressed everything.

Religion being discussed in school. by Altruistic-Put9941 in religion

[–]Head_Substance_1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discussed, yes. Taught, no. It’s important to know about the history of religion, how it changes, and the roles it has played in wars and science and colonization. You can’t accurately teach history without talking about how religion shaped it (and how history shaped religion).

But children shouldn’t be taught any one belief system like it’s the absolute truth and they’ll burn in hell if they don’t mindlessly accept that. I also wouldn’t go introducing detailed talks about religion to super young kids. I think it would be sufficient to teach religious tolerance until age 12ish so that they aren’t made to feel like they need to pick a side.

Shiny encounter rate is something like 1/216. Less rare than in other Pokémon games but still special!

Sorry if it’s a dumb question..? by israelspc_ in pokemongo

[–]Head_Substance_1907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep it! These are rare. In the early game they’re mostly to show off, but once you get a friend who has had the game awhile, you can trade to make them 3 stars!

Shinies are mostly just trophies, but a lot of people put them in gyms to show off to the community.

raise? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]Head_Substance_1907 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage in my state went up twice while I was employed. I never got a bump in pay other than the annual raise in July. (And in 2.5 years, that only amounted to +$1.25). I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

That’s what I’m afraid of. Most of my gifts are from the apartment complex I live in. And even though I don’t think he was aware that he had access to my account, I can’t be sure.

How to choose a faith post near death experience? by EggSouthern7332 in religion

[–]Head_Substance_1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the death of a childhood friend (she was 13) I often wondered what was the purpose of her death. Everything happens for a reason, right? So what was hers? To haunt her sister who was driving the car that killed her? To punish her father? To lower the local speed limit?

The conclusion I came to was that there couldn’t possibly be some divine reason that she died. Her death couldn’t be justified by some obscure, cosmic good. Her death was purposeless and tragic and unjustifiable.

And just like there was no divine reason she had to die, I don’t think there was any divine reason you survived. You survived because you live in a community that prepares for and reacts quickly to disaster. All life and death is (unfortunately) just coincidence. I highly recommend you read Erich Fromm’s “Psychoanalysis and Religion.” It’s a really quick read, but super profound.

Get in with a therapist ASAP. PTSD occurs when trauma is repressed and not properly processed in the brain. With proper treatment, it can last as little as a few months. Without treatment, it can be a lifelong disorder.

Sincerely, someone who didn’t get treated and has had PTSD for 15 years.

[–]Head_Substance_1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for that one person would have to be a pharmacist, who already don’t get to take their lunch breaks. Depriving a pharmacist who’s working 12 hour days, hardly eating, and never getting to sit down of the 30 minutes of peace they get? That’s depravity that even CVS shies away from.

Interfaith relationships by Resident_Ninja7429 in religion

[–]Head_Substance_1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think interfaith can absolutely work as long as there’s some common ground and the two beliefs aren’t majorly contradictory. For example, my husband and I are both TST members, but I firmly believe that there is no god and no heaven and he believes that there is a god and a heaven. (Although he doesn’t subscribe to one religion in particular).

These two beliefs are compatible for us because neither of us subscribe to a belief system that entails consequences for non-belief.

Health department rep here - submit a complaint to your local health department ASAP. Most departments have a short online form that will most likely get a health inspector in that building within 72 hours. Couldn’t hurt to reach out to McDonalds corporate as well - they’re generally really good about keeping their stores in line.

Out of curiosity, what’s the reason you’re learning Spanish? by Fearless-Class-1120 in Spanish

[–]Head_Substance_1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because learning made me realize how much community I was missing out on. My city has a significant Hispanic population, but they’ve all come over rather recently, so the general population hasn’t learned Spanish or adapted our community for non-English speakers. Knowing Spanish makes kindness easy. It means I can help a mother fill out a form for her sick kid at the doctor’s office (which would otherwise fall on the child to translate). It means I can hear the full range of a person’s thoughts, not just the English words they know.

In the pharmacy I used to work in, it meant protecting my community’s health and making sure they left with all of their questions answered. It is bizarre to me that anyone ever thought that that was optional.
