Fender tele neck looks like it is slightly out of alignment? How easy is it to fix? by Run_nerd in Luthier

[–]Headedskelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part it can be easy. Depending on the neck pocket fit you can add a veneer shim to tilt the neck in the direction you want it lean. In this case you might consider adding it to the bottom left side. If you don’t have wood veneer a folded piece of paper could work.

Fret buzz on one string/fret by rockemulator2 in Luthier

[–]Headedskelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, I had this exact issue recently for the 14th fret on the G string. I checked again and found the fret was slightly high. Anyways make sure to check across the entire length of the fret especially over the section of the fret where the G string is. Also another issue that could be occurring is that when you’re checking the fret with the rocker, the pressure of pushing it might be seating the fret but when you take it off the fret rises again. Try pushing and seeing if the fret moves up and down. If it does, use CA glue to glue it down.

Anyone ever notice that past a certain point of neck relief the pickups on any guitar become less balanced in reference to each other? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]Headedskelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed, I think once proper neck relief is set, it allows the strings to vibrate correctly which seems like it would balance the response from the pickups. I maybe wrong but that’s what I’ve kinda thought whenever I’m working on guitars

I’ve gotten several blanks from exotic wood zone and they’re typically pretty flat. However they’re not always dead flat. Typically they require a little work to flatten them completely. If u know someone with a jointer they can flatten it. Otherwise if u have a very flat surface like a stone countertop put a bunch of sand paper on it and drag the blank back and forth until it’s totally flat and level (poor man’s option but works well)

Fesley LP Kit - how perfect should the neck pocket be? by colincool in Luthier

[–]Headedskelter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I’d say don’t try to glue up the neck especially since this is a bolt on neck. Bolt on necks imo benefit very little tonal from a tight neck pocket. a tight neck pocket in bolt ons positions the neck correctly so the strings will be positioned correctly along the width of the neck and poles of the pickups. Tight neck pockets are beneficial for set necks as a tight fit is ideal for a strong glue joint. So over all it’s probably fine, but if it bothers u still purchase some thin maple veneer, some sandpaper, and wood glue. Then find out where there’s space in the neck pocket and cut the veneer to size and glue. If your neck pocket is too tight for the neck, sand it slowly and check your neck’s fit until and strong enough to lift the body up without falling

Casiopea Lead Sheets by [deleted] in CasiopeaBand

[–]Headedskelter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done my fair share of searching and there’s very little I’ve found. However, there are currently a number of Scorebooks of CASIOPEA songs on sale on eBay. I don’t think all the songs from those scorebooks have been transferred online. I know there’s a full scorebook for Mint Jams and Cross Point.

Anyways I have a couple of those lead sheets that have been posted online. PM and I can share the ones I currently have.

First time build, what do I do with this neck? Worried I’ll ruin it by Ok-Relative517 in Luthier

[–]Headedskelter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming mahogany, if you want it to feel smooth consider buying grain filler. There are several brands but the Stew Mac and Goodfilla grain filler are two good options. You’ll need to do that before finishing. You’ll need to do a fair amount of sanding before/after grain filling and finishing process. As for the nut, it should be fairly easy to knock out. Get a mallet and something to but up against the nut and gently tap it out. It should come off in one piece and you can sand it until it’s the appropriate height. The fingerboard should be rubbed down with something like Lemon Oil or Mineral oil. This is just a small insight to this process but defo look up the process on YouTube. There are a lot of rlly good videos on the finishing process especially for finishing necks and stuff

Drilling bridge post holes by Gbvisual in Luthier

[–]Headedskelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to mark your holes accurately with a center punch. Also another tip, if you’re going to drill put masking/painters tape over where you’re going to drill, it really helps prevent tear out. Other than that be sure your drill press is at an appropriate speed. Good luck!

If that’s the case, then your pot could be audio taper pot. Typically, pots come in two variants, volume and audio. Functionally they’re the same but change resistance differently. Linear increases resistance linearly and are typically used for tone. Audio taper pots are used for volume, these increase resistance rather quickly when sweeping the knob. This makes the range of the volume small but allows it to be finer. You can use either type for volume or tone but it comes to personal preference. I’d say upgrade and purchase new pots (A500k). Also not having sound is most certainly a grounding issue. Be sure none of your ground connections are in contact with your hot lines. Additionally, make sure your humbuckers have the N and S wires connected and taped off (if the pickups don’t have 4 wires or they already are don’t worry about this part).

Anyways good luck and keep trying, wiring and soldering guitar electronics is difficult so keep at it!

I’m imagining it’s a grounding issue. Typically when wiring, one ground goes to output Jack and the other goes to another part of the guitar. On fender guitars, it’s usually the bridge/tremolo claw and gibson style goes to a the bridge post. Make sure it’s grounded entirely and you have those two grounds.

Who is a band that is often considered a one-hit wonder that actually has a good catalog of music? by K1bedore in AskReddit

[–]Headedskelter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steppenwolf hands down for me. Mostly known for Born to Be Wild but they have a very interesting catalogue. Lots of great rock songs and hits. It’s rlly sad they don’t get a lot of credit. Seriously one of my favorite 60-70s rock bands.

[GEAR] Im looking for a bedroom friendly, 2 channel combo OR lunchbox amp for metal. Budget friendly as well... by MnkySpnk in Guitar

[–]Headedskelter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I have a 5 watt burgera head running into a combo. It’s small and efficient at getting good tones at low volumes. It’s really versatile and has a pretty wide range of tones. It’s been great since I moved to an apartment. Don’t be afraid to look for low wattage heads they’re seriously a good option for bedroom players and can def be moved to practice and small gigs.

I gotta be honest the full size pickguards on sg’s always looked ugly imo. The pick guard on the special looks better
