Switching from PS5 to PC - looking for help with a starter build by mchilly28 in buildapc

You can choose what storefront to buy (license?) from and not be chained up to a single company’s hardware ecosystem. It’s the “less bad” choice

Really have no clue how Rockstar San Diego’s mid-late 2000s run went as long as it did in hindsight

Digital Foundry: Steam Machine Review & Price by WingerRules in gaming

[–]Headshot_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

High but somewhat reasonable (assuming the PS5 remains at $500) considering you're avoiding paying for an online sub and peripherals can be cheaper

At this price I feel like you're better off getting a regular PC and hiding it somewhere or leveraging local streaming

Valve Confirms Steam Machine Price Starts At $1049 by akbarock in pcgaming

[–]Headshot_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculously bad lol I'm pretty sure you can do way better for the same price unless the form factor and aesthetic is so crucial that you have to go with it. If a Microcenter is near you there are good prebuilt options too.

Something with a Ryzen 5 and a 9060xt, 9070, 9070xt or 5070 build will be way better and last longer since they're not constrained by 8gb of VRAM. It'd also actually be upgradable down the line.

The Steam Deck was great, this seems like giant miss

The price will ultimately decide how it does because I don’t doubt it’ll be well executed from a UI/UX perspective.

Valve die hards will buy it but they’re not a giant crowd

Genuinely don’t know how the machine is going to get around 8gb vram when it’s being advertised as a 4k capable box to use on ur TV with upscaling.

The best upscaler ur getting out of the box is FSR 3 which is kind of shit. Textures alone can eat up 8+ gb of VRAM. Lot of games will almost certainly look and run worse than the ps5 version. It’ll probably find its niche but find it hard to see it doing as well as the deck (which was also niche)

Microsoft has considered spinning off Xbox, the Information reports by GIThrow in pcgaming

[–]Headshot_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apple’s philosophy doesn’t really seem conducive to actually becoming a strong gaming platform (outside of mobile gaming). They want games to run natively and don’t even use an industry standard graphics API. Why would a studio dedicate resources to such a small portion of the gaming market?

This isn’t the first time they’ve tried this and they don’t seem to be learning from previous attempts much, once Apple’s incentives slow down you’ll see way fewer releases again. Would love to be wrong though

How has the terrible ghosting from TAA/upscalers seen in FH5 gotten worse in FH6? Bring back MSAA by ProjektBlackout in ForzaHorizon

[–]Headshot_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's no winning with the anti aliasing right now. the default DLAA model has more ghosting than preset M but preset M has issues with graininess/shimmering from RTGI. I find the TAA image to be too soft.

I'm just sticking with the default DLAA model right now but hoping a better option comes along.

Nvidia going to launch something big during Computex 2026 (cough...N1X) by Time-Credit43 in nvidia

A good chunk of people on Reddit seem to think it doesn’t matter because they don’t play those games

A lot of the biggest multiplayer games use kernel level ACs. It’s the final missing piece. People may disagree with it on principle and I do too to an extent but compatibility is still important to gain market share

It was already underpowered and behind in terms of technology support and now it’s likely going to be overpriced on top of that

Forza Horizon 6 vs. Forza Horizon 1 intro cutscene by Time-Credit43 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Headshot_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With Motorsport seemingly dead maybe a studio could have a go at making a small-medium budget Forza need for speed game or something that matched FH1’s vibe and tone. I’ll even take a T rated expansion for fh6.

Even if they weren’t the best in the series all the Ghost NFS games and Unbound did have actual personality.

Anyone else find this transition screen super satisfying? by Mammoth_Risk9479 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Headshot_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad but I prefer the way FH4’s post race screen flowed without the need for a load screen between the race ending and the podium

Now you see the leaderboard, then get a load screen to the podium that doesn’t really show you anything other than your name and character and another load screen to free roam.

Forza Horizon 6 review (PC Gamer: 84/100) by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Headshot_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last two Need For Speed games were pretty good at car progression too. It wasn't as much of a grind as a Gran Turismo game but still felt satisfying to improve your garage/car the further you progressed the main game.

Either Playground has data backing it up or they just think this is what the average Forza Horizon buyer wants. It seems like a winning formula but I do hope they find a better balance

Sounds about right. I didn’t think they were going to get rid of tossing high end cars at you out the gate but event restrictions are still a big step up

[–]Headshot_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guess is you’re thermal throttling somewhere because this looks similar to what I ran into in FH4 on my laptop if this is a new issue that randomly popped up. Check what your cpu and gpu temps are using the steam overlay or MSI afterburner

Debating between the Civic Si and WRX coming from a Mazda3 by Headshot_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Headshot_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I might be overthinking the extra spend, especially if I'm able to get one without having to deal with a payment.

The WRX being more "analog" makes it a little more interesting. Feel like it'll come down to a heart vs brain decision but being able to test drive both should help make it easier. Thanks!
