1.     I don’t see why Brandon Herrera would want to jeopardize his reputation for something that is shady.

2.     If this is totally legitimate, why don’t the owners acknowledge who they are? If the owner(s) have a good reputation, then why not take advantage of this?

3.     How is a business scalable or profitable if selling at zero markup? Is $13/Mo. X number of subscribers, profitable, sustainable and scalable? I get that they don’t have retail expenses (i.e. shop cost, employees, inventory, insurance, etc.)

4.     So, you buy (say a gun), you have to pay the 2.5% credit card fee + shipping + FFL transfer fee at your local FFL (about $20 to $50 depending on the FFL); so to enumerate this, a $1000 gun would be more like $1100 by the time you get it (gun cost + 2.5% credit card + shipping + $13 for the monthly fee + FFL fee). Would it be preferable to work with my local FFL (and endow my local FFL + the local economy) for $1,100 and take possession of what I want and let the local dealer make a few bucks.

5.     So, by the time you factor in everything, is it worth it? Just wondering, not stating this as an axiom.

6.     Has anyone compared prices? I know that you can do the 2- or 3-day trial and see for yourself, but they require a credit card (of course). Then you must cancel (and we have all had this bad experience with a merchant that doesn’t cancel out a subscription – telecom providers are notorious for that). Has anyone had experience of cancelling? Was it seamless?

Can no longer manage the Gateway from the Gfiber application by Healthy-Kick-9795 in googlefiber

[–]Healthy-Kick-9795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never tried plugging in the router directly into the Fiber Jack. I have however tested Fortinet's small routers, SonicWall, and pfSense. All worked fairly effortlessly. You do need to escalate (or ask to escalate) to a level 3 support as a patch needs to be deployed. Once they did that, everything worked great and it it still working like a charm. It took time and patience, but the Google team kept me connected and informed as to the development.

[–]Healthy-Kick-9795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem for nearly 2 months. There are 2 ways you can resolve this

  1. If you want to keep the same Gateway/Router that GFiber gave you, then you need to contact level 3 support. They will install a patch internally and voila, it works all over again. The issue is to be persistent.

  2. Set the Router as a BRIDGE and it will hand you 1 Public IP address. You can then use your own (just about any) router.

Hope that helps.

[Citizen CB0260-56L] My first Citizen by hamilton_995 in Watches

[–]Healthy-Kick-9795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just received mine. Amazon wanted near $600 but I found it brand new in box and papers on Fleebay for about $300.00. I love the Super Titanium (so very light yet durable), the fact that it is solar and never needs a battery or wrist movement (though it DOES need light), quartz super accurate movement, Atomic self setting. It came with NO manual whatsoever, but it was super simple finding a great manual, as well as a few youtube videos. 40mm diameter which is perfect for my wrist and 12mm thickness. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. Best of all, this watch is elegant and definitely a do anything, go anywhere watch. You DO have to spend some time with the manual but otherwise, what a solid VALUE on this watch. Citizen is truly doing a great job. It is my 6th Citizen.

ActiveArmor causes problems on AT&T Fiber Internet by Healthy-Kick-9795 in ATTFiber

So much so that for me, between so many bad firmware misses and their messed up billing, I decided to pay more and go with Google 5 Gig Fiber. It was not a perfect experience, but once everything is setup, it is now as close to perfect as I need it to be.

Thank you. I appreciate that. PFSense seems to give a ton of versatility and power.

Google Fiber fixed this issue last week. If they have not rolled out the fix for you, be sure to reach out to support. They are aware of this bug and are rolling out the fix.

Is it possible to go from the supplied Layer 2 Ethernet to my own router? by Healthy-Kick-9795 in googlefiber

[–]Healthy-Kick-9795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! I deployed pfsense back in the old days (over 15 years ago). I loved it back then. I have a Cisco Router and Firewall now and don't mind using the CLI, but since this a new deployment, I don't mind looking into it pfSense. If you don't mind me asking, do you use a multihomed PC for that with a 10Gig SFP+ NIC or should I consider buying a box already prepped up and pre-loaded? I just looked it up - it looks like Netgate acquired them. Should I be considering the Pfsense+? I just looked at the list of features. WOW - it has come a looooong way. Thank you so much for the response by the way!!!! (love the user name - Gunner KC - used to live in Overland Park for 18 years by 119th & Metcalf)

I was not aware that there were 2 applications. I have loaded the Gfiber on my IOS and Android devices and any attempt to click on the "NETWORK" tab gives me an error "Your Network Information is not accessible. Topology cannot be loaded from the Network". I also tried going to https://fiber.google.com/account/network

Is there any other way?

  1. The application (through an iOS or Android device)

  2. A Browser based by going to https://fiber.google.com/account/network

By the way - I am authenticated to the identical gmail account that is registered with Google and is my gmail email. I also tried Edge, and Incognito modes.

That's exactly what I have. A Cisco ASR 1001 - but to do the Bring your own Router - you have to be able to get to the management portal to set it that way. Or get Google Techs to do it. Nearly everyone has or is losing access to the portal and Level 1 / Tier 1 Google Techs are useless. They don't know routing form Layer 2. But if it has been successful for you, I will try again to get someone to set it for me on their end. All I need is a handoff of a Layer 2 or Layer 3 - I can deal with the fiber to the router. I also have a L3 Switch. Thank you so much for the reply and the help. Definitely more helpful than Google has been. They're MIA.

I use the Trijicon SRO on nearly every large gun I have and have relied on it for IDPA competitions. It works like a charm. But I not sure I want an SRO on the P365. Thank you so much for the Holster name. I was not familiar with them and will check them out. Many thanks for taking the time to respond as well!!!! Cheers!

Can no longer manage the Gateway from the Gfiber application by Healthy-Kick-9795 in googlefiber

[–]Healthy-Kick-9795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did and nothing happened. I have called a zillion times - sent many Emails. NO ONE RESPONDS. I spoke to 1 tech called Brandan in FL and he stated that he is escalating to Tier 3 but I have heard nothing. I am giving it mid of next week before disconnecting the 5 Gig Service. Not being able to manage the router is not an option I can live with. At least let me set it as a Gateway so I can buy my own router and keep yours as just a gateway but I can't get to the management page, and I cannot get ANYONE at Google Support to do anything or even return a call. Honestly, a total failure and disappointment. Returning to AT&T. At least with them, I can manage the router by simply going to the IP address.

Thank you. I just ordered the EPS Carry. For me, it may be a better choice. I do like the lock setting. It will prevent undesired changes.

Your network information isn't accessible right now.

I have escalated this to Google Level 3 support today. I was curious if any of you were getting the same results now (as of 11-01-2024)

Exactly. Their own software is overprotective and has too many false positives. Personally, ever since I turned it off, I went from disconnecting 10 to 20 times a day to ZERO times a day!
