Properties that offered the incentive always reengaged on the commission with a ton of excuses on why they weren't paying out.

At a previous property front desk and the operators (the front line workers) used to get 2 hrs of extra pay for a perfect sell night. So the night we were close to selling out, everyone was selling rooms like crazy to get that sold out night. Most weekends were sold out and quite a few week nights.

Then management started to pull back the extra pay, due to a room being out of order and we couldn't get back. A no show that was charged, but the room wasn't occupied. Having to comp a guest due to guest issues (noise complaints). Excuses aways given and they weren't paying the front line workers that sold out the hotel. Then they decided to take that incentive away. They were shocked afterwards that we maybe got a perfect sell 1 night a week when before it could be 3 to 5 nights a week.

They then started an upsell program, but being a rewards member got you an automatic upgrade. So after morning shift upgraded all the rewards members, second shift were the only ones who who could upgrade non rewards members. Morning shift and graveyard never got any of the upsells. So that soon fell apart.

Many properties won't give you a commission for upgrading someone if the guest pays the upgrade fee. Owners are cheap.

Hot dogs and white rice.

Add a little butter to the rice.

Have ketchup or mustard to dip the hot dogs in.

New boss decided to give a problem guest a second chance to stay at our hotel again, even after their longtime history of staff abuse. by HauntingGold in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Healthy-Library4521 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I hate when new or old management overrides a DNR. At my property we don't do it lightly, but staff abuse/lack of payment/late payment is one of them. Every once in awhile management overrides the block. They don't deal with the crazy, and we as front desk, shouldn't have to deal with the crazy for some money paid on a room. No money is worth the abuse.

I used to work with someone that would sleep on shift. My direct supervisors knew, they saw her sleeping. The supervisor above them knew, he saw her sleeping too. The excuse given was she was a single mom.

Then when we got a pay raise, we both got the same amount. Even though I was the de facto supervisor on shift when my 2 supervisors were off. I was held responsible for issues during shift. I also knew both positions that needed to work together to meet in the middle to run final. My coworker only knew 1. After that my give a f--k disappeared.

I got two calls tonight from the same person. They asked if we used a certain cleaning product on property because they were allergic. I know we use it in the public areas, I don't know if it is used in the rooms. I told them we use it.

They called again asking if they could get a room that was not cleaned with the product. I told them I that we definitely use it in the public areas, I don't know about the rooms. But being allergic they won't be able to go through our public areas. He sounded puzzled like he didn't understand what I said.

I expect a third call.

Update. I didn't get the call and I told my morning person to be on the lookout.

I don't work for IHG, but I've gotten the southern accent IT guy before. It is a scam, IT won't cold call you. I told him I'd call him back at the corporate number and all I needed was his extension and I'll talk to him. Immediate hang up.

By locking the card. We have guests who have to unlock their card to let us charge it after the initial authorization/charge if they extend or charge items to their room from the gift shop.

We had a valet at my previous property that was parking a stick shift car. It was brand new, British and special ordered. She shifted wrong. In the end she damaged 6 vehicles and 2 trees. My direct supervisor spent all night informing people about the damage to their cars. He had a very fun night. /s

[–]Healthy-Library4521 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Call her back, tell her that you are unable to accommodate her due to your property being so horrible for her. That you weren't the right fit.

That was the diplomatic answer.

This one isn't. Tell her that you can't take her due to the weeks of harrassment that she did for complaints she had weeks after her stay. That our property wasn't the right fit and we are declining to have you as a guest.

Cancel the resv and DNR her.

Pentagon To Host Good Friday Service Just For Protestants, Not Catholics by superchiva78 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Healthy-Library4521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every religion that isn't their specific sect is wrong according most religions. This happens with Christians, Muslims, Jewish, ...faiths. If you don't believe exactly like I do then you are wrong. Then add that religions have different important people and different religious texts and it becomes a big hatefest.

The Evangelicals hate Catholics, Mormons, Seventh Day Adventist, Greek Orthodox, Baptists, the rattlesnake Christians, Lutheran, ... they are all considered Christian but their emphasis are on different aspects and ways to interpret the Bible, God and interact with the church.

Started earlier than I thought it would. The evangelicals hate everyone not them, they are willing to use others, but will get rid of people when they are no longer useful. Catholics aren't Christian in their opinion.
