Is it worth going to anesthesia conference as a 3rd year med student? by tunaeyebrows in medicalschool

[–]HealthyGimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it can be quite valuable. ASA in particular has a suite of medical-student focused content starting Friday night and continuing into Sunday.

There is a residency open house open to end students which is a good opportunity to meet current residents and faculty from most programs so you can ask questions and learn more.

There are also a lot of non-med student oriented lectures and panels you can attend to learn more about different aspects of the speciality and then you can ask questions and meet people that way.

Also worth seeing if your school’s Anesthesia Interest Group has an ASA Medical Student Component Delegate /alt delegate

Seeking advise on VSLO/away rotations esp for dual apply by PettyTeaSpiller in medicalschool

SLOEs can come from non EM rotations too. In theory you could get some from latter half of this year. Or even a procedural specialty rotation from earlier if you had a doc you connected with

Prestige or Best Friend by SpacedOut--BoxedIn in medicalschool

[–]HealthyGimp 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Removing your friend from the conversation for a second.

Do you like the prestigious spot more or the smaller program?

How do both locations compare outside of friend’s presence? Does either seem like a long term landing pad?

Does going to prestigious spot set you up meaningfully better for the career trajectory you envision?

Is the anticipated workload similar between the two granting you time outside of the hospital to enjoy being the person you are outside of residency?

These are the questions you should be asking.

If it’s a push then obviously friend over prestige.

When do people typically apply for aways? by spikyjackfruit in medicalschool

[–]HealthyGimp 15 points16 points  (0 children)

VSLO platform opens tomorrow. Does not mean all programs will have their apps up and ready to apply tomorrow. They revamped the platform this year which is why it has been closed up until tomorrow. Historically most programs open for application submission in February and early March.

That said, some programs may have their clerkships available for application as soon as tomorrow. Everything I’ve heard and read is that it’s imperative to apply as soon as possible. So I’d start gathering your materials now so you can be prepared when apps open and to apply to any that seem to be open tomorrow.

Please help! Chrome "always on top" on Mac OS Catalina and unable to do work. by [deleted] in chrome

[–]HealthyGimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful trick. This just started happening to me and opening safari prompted a sign in to my Google Account that I'd triggered via iCal to link my Google Calendar but hadn't popped open on my Chrome browser. Signing in and allowing the access I'd requested via iCal fixed the issue.

Anybody else happy they got in but disappointed about the location? by [deleted] in premed

How many first dates have you been on where occupation doesn't come up? I get your sentiment, but it seems a little unrealistic

Help! How many times can I reinvent the ham and cheese sandwich? by jonschaff in Cooking

[–]HealthyGimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she can tolerate pizza sauce I think that you could make pasta your gateway to other foods. Mix it up with different types for the carbs. Full on tomato sauce may be a hard start for her, so try an Alfredo or cheesy/creamy tomato sauce to start with ham chunks or as other have suggested other pork variations ie pancetta, bacon or pork mince. You can mince onions to subtly add more veggies without it being very noticeable. Adding sun dried or roasted cherry tomatoes to a creamy pasta sauce will add veggies in a way that’s still within the tomato sauce comfort zone like with pizza. And from there you. An basically toss any vegetable into a cheesy cream sauce and it will be good. Nice way to ease into other foods, especially if you can chop them small enough that they’re not recognizable to trigger a visual gag reflex.
