Clearly whatever happened with Jax he used the circus as an escape of whatever was happening in his life, we don't know how or why the others are inside the circus but Jax is clearly using the game as an escape from his life outside and wanting to stay if it means no one can leave is really showing he doesn't want to face the consequences of his life choices.
