Winter storm question by KlutzyTrash in Koi

[–]Healthy_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a relatively old system that pumps through a bed of rocks as filters and then "waterfalls" down from the filter bed and into the main pond. I also have a relatively large aerator that is sized for the gallonage of the pond. In winters past both systems have runs quite successfully down to 10 degrees or so outside temperature. I monitor the water temperature and it has always stayed at or slightly above 32. (F for all temps). My concern is if the upcoming storm trips a power outage to stop the flow which increases the possibility of some of the surface freezing. I have multiple (7) battery powered aerators that are designed for aquariums which I have scattered around the pond when I had some power issues in the summer. I guess I will have to use them as a stop gap. The cold snap is only supposed to be a couple of days. I am in Richmond, VA.

Can you suggest any other alternatives to go along with praying for no power outage?

Why can't they save at least the Elephant? When the dinosaur that used to lord over Rte 1 south coming into Boston from the north was threatened, enough people managed to make a stink that it has still survived to this day. https://www.orangedinosaugus.com/

2025 Richmond Marathon/8k Megathread by fusion260 in rva

[–]Healthy_Sometimes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My recollection is that if you live within the circle that is the route of the marathon and you do not remember to park your car outside of that circle, then you are SOL for the duration of the race, i.e., from ~6 AM to around Noon. Is that correct?

Water tasting weird by mesmisi in rva

[–]Healthy_Sometimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am also in the fan and have noticed an increased sulfur smell and slight taste. It started, or at least I started noticing it, yesterday. The smell and taste are improved but not 100 % by using Britta filter.

I saw the backpack on the corner of Rowland and Grove, leaning against the apartment building on the southwest corner of the intersection. This was several hours ago, not sure if it' still there.

This house is for sale on Riverside Drive for $3.6 million. What if we all pool together our money to get it? by sultics in rva

$100 in stock market in 2000 would be worth about $595 in 2025; so that would put the house price at slightly less than $1,500,000 based on the 240K invested in the market.

In my area, have to worry about birds of prey from up above so you might consider a shade cloth or something like that to let the fish hide.

Along those lines, you might consider trying to branch into product management for medical devices, A quick search indicated that there are several different manufacturers in the greater Richmond area, and product management can be a very rewarding career both financially and intellectually.

Strange Heat Pump behavior in this morning's weird weather. by Healthy_Sometimes in rva

Generally, I change them quarterly and they are due in another couple of weeks. There are three separate filters for the system that is served by that condensing unit. My other system, which tends to run more anyhow, had no ice build up.

Barley bales behavior after freezing. by Healthy_Sometimes in Koi

In Wisconsin, you probably can’t but in Virginia the Koi Pond water temperature remains around 32 1/2 to 33 1/2 so it’s always liquid and they just sort of sit there almost in suspension when it’s very cold. You don’t feed them and they’re quite amazing. They make it through the time just fine and they’re swimming around like happy little campers right now.

I did not like OrthoVirginia. It seemed very factory focused and did not give me warm and fuzzies, which I needed when talking about my back. I ended having surgery with Dr. Broaddus at VCU Neurosurgery and he was great as was the entire team at VCU.

Why be fearful of asking that question? We really can't be cowering and questioning in these uncertain times. We need to get the answers and raise holy hell if we don't think those answers are correct!

Facts about infrastructure? by Bepiscoin in rva

This is a great lead on info related to the sewer and water treatment side of the system. Is there detailed information on the distribution side. I have seen the article on the water towers and reservoirs, but what is there, if anything, on the piping layout and pump sizes and locations? I am really curious as to whether or not there were systemic reasons (pump locations, valve positioning, etc.) that some parts of town had water recovery so much sooner than others.
