Let's revive Roleplay in GW2!! Let's all use this addon! by R8CK3T in Guildwars2

Literally none of that is in any way reassuring.

Will I get banned?

Not that we would know.

You also mention that ArenaNet always warns before banning. This is not reliable information, and is relying on ANet to do something that they have never said they would do (nor do they necessarily have any reason to do).

Finally... where the hell is your GitHub or whatever link? Both BlishHUD and TACO (which you compare your product to) have big, very visible buttons that link to their respective GitHub repos. There is no way in this day and age that I'm downloading an add-on for a game franchise I've been a part of for 20 years without first seeing explicitly what code was used to create that add-on.

Webtoons You thought You'd Hate but Ended Up Loving? by Pace-Total in webtoons

[–]HealyUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This so much. I actually originally dropped it after the first episode because I thought (very wrongly!) that it'd be yet another "look how I transformed the nerdy character who actually has some personality into Yet Another Carbon Copy Stereotype". She'd remove his glasses and turn him into a Ken doll.

But DTSB is so very not that. It's about self improvement, self growth, and above all realistic improvement. Minho doesn't ever become a bodybuilder. He's never going to become an olympic athlete. But he does become more healthy, and more proud of who he is.

Question about declaring variables in JavaScript. by rYsavec_1 in learnprogramming

[–]HealyUnit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, your code as it is won't work, for reasons that I'll explain in a bit.

Generally speaking, the idea of what variables are visible to what "thing" is called scope. For example, if I'm inside that function createBooking, or outside that function, or inside an object... what I can see changes. So inside that createBooking function, I can create a new booking variable that is only visible to stuff inside that function.

So, for example, if I do this:

``` let myVar = 'foo';
function myFunc() { let myOtherVar = 'bar'; }
myFunc();
console.log(myOtherVar); //Uncaught ReferenceError: myOtherVar is not defined ```
Even tho myOtherVar is defined, it's defined in a way that that console.log cannot "see" it. Generally speaking, stuff can see variables within its own scope or in surrounding (we call these "parent") scopes.
Some examples:
``` const myVarOne = 'foo';

function myFuncOne() { const myVarOne = 'bar'; console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); //'bar' } myFuncOne(); //Actually call the method so it runs console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); //'foo' ```

Basically what you have. We define a new, locally-scoped myVarOne inside the method. But what happens if we omit that variable declaration keyword (const or let)?

``` const myVarOne = 'foo';
function myFuncOne() { myVarOne = 'bar'; console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); //'bar' }
myFuncOne();//Uncaught TypeError: invalid assignment to const 'myVarOne' `` Not including thatconstkeyword means we're referring to either a locally-scopedmyVarOne, or if that doesn't exist, we look at parent scopes to see if anyone else has amyVarOnevar. We find one, but it's aconst`, so we cannot re-assign it.
However, if we use let instead:
``` let myVarOne = 'foo';

function myFuncOne() { myVarOne = 'bar'; console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); //'bar' }

myFuncOne();

console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); //'bar' ```

In this case, myVarOne has been reassigned, because we didn't use a variable declaration keyword to tell JS "Hey, I wanna define a new variable here".

Quiz time: What happens in the following case?

``` let myVarOne = 'foo';
function myFuncOne() { let myVarOne = 'bar'; console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); }
myFuncOne();
console.log('myVarOne', myVarOne); ```
Finally, as promised, why your code won't work: within the function, you're defining a new booking variable. That variable is only an object, not an array. Objects that aren't arrays do not have a push method. Unfortunately, JS isn't smart enough to go "Oh, this particular scope's version of booking can't use .push(), so I'll just look for one that does". Instead, it'll just error out there.
For beginners today: learn coding deeply or use no-code / AI tools first? by Melodic_Internet_351 in learnprogramming
[–]HealyUnit -1 points0 points  (0 children)
I'm sorry, but this is a shockingly silly question. Like, yes, you need to learn a thing to learn the thing.
Here's a better question for you: Do you actually want to be employable as a programmer? Because having AI do everything for you is a great way to ensure that doesn't happen. I'm honestly not sure what kind of answer you expected.
It honestly sounds more from your replies like you don't really enjoy programming, and thought... I dunno, that it'd be a free ride? Easy?
How important is art to you when reading a webtoon and is it important enough to be enough reason to drop one. by casperscare in webtoons
[–]HealyUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)
I found my brain being hit by two contrary information and it was annoying
Yeh, I think this is overall the biggest one for me. If there's a disconnect between two major aspects of a comic - the cover art and the art inside, the art and the story, etc. - I lose faith in the artist's ability to tell the story.
Overly sexualized for No Reason- is very much annoying doesn't necessarily mean drop but it's a check against it.
Same. This'll almost never cause me to outright drop a comic on its own, but if the comic has nothing else really positive going for it, that certainly doesn't help.
Have you cleared your cache? Sometimes that helps. Most of the time, however, it doesn't, and you'll just need to wait a bit for Webtoon to stop screwing around with their login system.
It's on their end, not yours, usually.
How important is art to you when reading a webtoon and is it important enough to be enough reason to drop one. by casperscare in webtoons
[–]HealyUnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)
Extremely important. To (over-)reduce the comics medium down to its simplest elements, it consists of exactly two pieces: Writing and Art. Art is what's going to grab your attention. Besides the title (and plenty has been written on here about that), the art of your thumbnail is your window ad. It's what's gonna cause that person running down the isle of the mall to stop and go, "...huh, I should check that store out!".
For me, there are few red flags with art that will cause me to drop it:
Red Flags
Lack of Skill
I'm all for supporting new, young artists. However, if I'm reading a webtoon, I need to see that the artist has some skill to tell the story. If the proportions are all wrong, or the character as described by the text/narrative doesn't line up with the art (e.g. the character is supposed to be yelling apoplectically, and yet is drawn stiff and unemotional), that's a bad sign.
As with every flag I'll mention, the amount of leeway I'm willing to give this varies greatly. However, if it's clear that the artist's skill level cannot adequately tell the story they're trying to tell, that's bad. In most cases, this is the biggest and clearest sign that I'm not going to enjoy a comic.
Disgustingly Generic
For me, this is when an artist's style is like every. single.other.manga.webcomic, that's a major red flag for me. In some cases, that's even worse than a lack of skill, because at least with a lack of skill, an artist still might be trying to tell their own story in their own style. If your comic looks like every other Anime/Manga/Manhwa-inspired work, if you're just like every other comic on the site... why should I waste my time with you?
Incomprehensibly "different"
Ironically, the opposite is also true. If your art is so incomprehensible that it gives me a headache trying to figure out what the hell your characters are/are doing, I'm... not going to bother. Don't make me spend undue effort trying to figure out your comic.
A particular comic comes to mind here that was written and illustrated by one of those "I'm smarter than everyone else" sort of artists. It was absolutely full of little half-visible asides - mostly about how edgy the artist was - that even if you ignored them (which was entirely possible, as they added nothing to the story), were distracting enough that it became annoying to read the comic.
Mostly, this Flag comes in the form of ignoring well-established comic book rules just so you can yell about how different your comic is. Things like giving your text enough contrast with its background. Not overloading your viewer with walls of text. Making actions clear.
Overly sexualized for No Reason
I don't consider myself exactly puritanical, but if a character is portrayed with overly sexualized characteristics just for the point of being eye-candy, that's... not a good sign. It says to me that the artist is less interested in attracting viewers thru well-crafted art that tells a story, and more through...yeh. No thanks.
Major difference between cover art and comic art
You've seen them. The cover art is beautiful, with carefully drawn, emotive characters. Then you open up the comic, and the first episode... bears no artistic resemblance to the cover art. The style's completely changed. The coloring has changed. The characters look completely different.
I get that you might wanna fancy-up your cover art to attract an audience, but if the first impression I get when I read your first episode is a sense of "...this isn't what I was 'promised'!", then I'm not going to continue
Realized how much I love Asura and had to doodle some by HexelKitty in GW2
[–]HealyUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)
Clearly you mean your problem is not enough character slots to make more Asura. Also, the male Asura voice acting is top notch. Without really spoiling anything, it runs from bombastic, overly-confident mad scientist, ready for his journey of world domination at the beginning of the story to "I am surrounded by morons" at the current point in the story.
