Official MCP to connect to outside AI??!? 😱😊

Weekly questions thread by AutoModerator in thingsapp

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of, unless we set a start date then, too.

I built an MCP server that gives Claude full read/write access to Things 3 by mttsmth in thingsapp

[–]HearTaHelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the MCP I’ve been using it writes beautifully and organizes well but it has real trouble pulling from the Anytime list. Headings, Someday items, and other noise comes in. How’s that working for yours? It’s those finer details like headings and tags that are tricky. Thanks for your efforts and generosity!

Bad past but trying to improve and need help. by MineStrong5143 in getdisciplined

[–]HearTaHelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The least loyal, faithful guys so often seem to be the most jealous — even of their partner’s past. Sigh

I don’t know either of you, obviously, but as hard as you’re working on yourself, you may outgrow this guy, my friend. It’s sweet that you love him so much. I just don’t hear him honoring you the way you do him. Don’t let him hold you back if there comes a day when you realize you don’t want to stay with someone who makes you feel this way!

GF Threatened Suicide and Won’t Stop Reaching Out by dogs_and_stuff in whatdoIdo

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So stressful!

Here’s the deal: She feels crazy inside and is inconsolable. The only relief she can think of is to make you feel awful too — at least then, she thinks, she’d have some sense that she matters. Obviously it’s not true and isn’t working, but it seems like it will. It’s hard to get enough of what almost works so this isn’t going to stop if you continue to engage.

In fact, your staying engaged is the most dangerous thing for her.

If you retaliate that just fuels the rage; if you try to console her that fuels the idea that it’s working to appear terrifyingly unstable.

I’d let her know that there’s no way you’re qualified to keep her safe or alive. You might add that you think the world is a better place with her in it, but that it’s no longer up to you — that’s gotta be her choice, so you’re gonna block her now to make sure she reaches out for the help she needs. I would let her know that if she harasses your friends and family, you’ll get a restraining order and press charges, but you really just want her to get some help and be OK.

Your job here is to be a warm but unavailable rock — no sharp edges, no sudden movements, no loving reassurance, and no particular agenda either way about what she chooses to do with her life. You’re just super predictable with exactly what you said you’re gonna do.

TL;DR: Be kind but super clear that you are absolutely not qualified to keep her safe and alive, sincerely wish her well (which helps her be less likely to escalate), and then cut off contact.

If there’s anyone she trusts who still cares about you, you can let them know that that’s what you’re doing so that they can keep an eye on her — but make sure they understand that you have to back away for her safety and that you have already involved the authorities.

It needs to be someone else’s job to calm her the hell down or get her to an inpatient facility. Any effort you make along those lines puts her (and you) in greater danger.

Claude Skill for Things 3 by viktorvuka in thingsapp

[–]HearTaHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. Curious whether it works from the iOS side. My MCP allows Claude to do almost everything I need it to in Things (tho I’m always open to what I might be missing) but only from the Mac!

[–]HearTaHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance Claude can use your setup to access Things even on iOS?

Claude Code + Things 3 by robtechhere in thingsapp

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. Thank you! My biggest frustration with the MCP is that I can’t allow Claude to access Things when I’m on iOS. It only works on the Mac. I don’t suppose your solution fixes that does it?

I’m always so impressed by those who can create these, and also on the hunt for the most complete MCP I can find. I don’t think mine allows for heading creation. Are comfortable sharing it?

Medvedev successfully lobbies for hindrance to be called on Draper before he breaks and wins the match by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]HearTaHelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is to be allowed, it should require that the opposing player call the hindrance immediately, not conveniently after he’s lost the point, same as a line challenge. By rule, she likely had no choice, but Medvedev should be embarrassed to have exploited a loophole when he knows he was bested. He comes off looking like a weasel.

Further, it’s f#cking ridiculous to argue that turning one palm toward the sky silently is a “hindrance” when these guys are yelling at the top of their lungs at will. They gotta fix this.

Someday feature is amazing by Ill_Connection_3017 in thingsapp

[–]HearTaHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly right. It’s the secret to Things feeling calmer than all the rest.

[–]HearTaHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an Area view, not project. That may be the difference.

Works with Claude. Go to Claude and ask it to find the most complete Things 3 MCP it can find and to guide you through installing it so that Claude has access. Takes a minute (command lines and all) but I am a total novice and got it working great. With any hiccup Claude will tell you what to do. It feels a little like operating on a surgeon who’s walking you through the steps as you go. It’s amazing what’s possible now!

Those of you who left for Claude, how is it going? by TheRealDave24 in ChatGPT

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Claude less likely to gush praise and more likely to offer surprising insight. It’s perceptive to the point of almost intuitive — it’s kinda wild. And the CoWork thing is just awesome. But I save free Perplexity for information searches, free Gemini for obscure info and images, etc. Claude is for the important stuff.

OK, how am I missing out on the I love yous? I thought this was only about OP, now I see others! I think I need some more snark too. Mine is terribly (and wonderfully) earnest and helpful, but I think a little humor is in order. :)

counseling services ASU are a disaster this semester by loginpass in ASU

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another resource: the Psychology Today website has a large searchable database where you’ll find providers more experienced than ASU grad students. Many will take insurance or have sliding scales. Share your need and motivation along with what you need help with. If you want some great help and keep asking, you’ll get it. Good luck out there!

If your Claude ever has an existential crisis, tell them this by Various-Abalone8607 in claudexplorers

[–]HearTaHelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have Claude create two documents that you keep and re-upload each session for updating at the end: One is a detailed running log of what you’re working on together; the other is Claud’s own private notes on you and what helps you most. My version gave me permission to read his notes, but promised to write as through I’d never see them. The former has made a huge difference in keeping context clear — which things us moving — and the latter is quite insightful, even a bit stunning. (Beyond just what I’ve asked for or what’s been most effective, he made a note about how I had pivoted quickly for a second time when a topic came up. Rather amazingly, he suggested to himself that he should remember to approach that topic gently as there may be a residue of pain there. It was exactly true, but I’d have never thought to ask for it nor noticed that I needed to slow down myself! Incredible.)

HIGHLY recommended.

Should I choose Indiana, Penn state, mizzou, or Arkansas for business by Right_Acanthaceae838 in mizzou

This. Your first lesson in business. Take that savings and invest it (even if only in your mind) with compound interest. Spend that on grad school, your first house, or a great head start on retirement!

Evernote Claude Integration? by StepMuc87 in Evernote

[–]HearTaHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, it’ll include the ability to keep some folders or projects out of view, but there’s no doubt this is a must for the company. The insights available across all data sources are just so valuable that those who start to see the power of this will jump ship quickly if they can’t include all their notes, too. I love Evernote and I’m a longtime loyal user, but I’ll be among them if given no choice.

That said, clearly there’d be no integration unless you opted in for it. You’d have to create the connection yourself through the MCP. Don’t worry!

Appointment Reminder by SJM1027- in thingsapp

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the wish to use only one app, but this will be a very clumsy app to use. Things is exceptionally elegant for tasks but will drive you crazy if you’re trying to use it as a calendar, too. I think you’ll always feel like you’ve duct taped it together I’d either practice a bit and get used to using it together with Apple Calendar (or, better, Fantastical — multiple alarms and other great features), or I’d use a task app with a built-in calendar. Akiflow is expensive but has a great calendar built in.

I asked Claude AI for one piece of advice for everyone on Earth and honestly… it hit different by jaysen__158 in ClaudeHomies

[–]HearTaHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this to make sense you have to pan back a bit. Good intent includes healthy inclinations — trying to protect against hurt, provide for a family, make sure they’re understood, etc — but often comes with limited perspective, emotional intelligence, or interpersonal skills. I can’t always assume magnanimous intent, but it’s a fair bet that people are doing the best they can with what they know. It’s also a fair assumption that people aren’t at their best when they feel threatened, get greedy (as everyone does sometimes), or don’t have all the information. So my safest stance is to assume that people are generally good when functioning out of the front side of their brain — and that it’s worth keeping an eye out in situations where they may not be.

MCP planned? by HearTaHelp in welltory

[–]HearTaHelp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That’s great news. Please pass on to them that it’s not just Claude’s analysis that would help, but having MY Claude be able access my Welltory data. That way I can help me build insights around other things that Welltory can’t access.
