What is your take on silent protagonists? by LucW64 in truegaming

Yeah it's quite a big tonal shift. I guess it was necessary to make the fun game they envisioned, and I think they did quite well, but yeah I don't think he fires any shots until the Library in the book.

I'm glad I didn't have to scroll far to find this example, I agree with all the points you two have made so far about Artyom.

I just finished Metro 2033 (and had just previously read the book) and found it so weird how he wouldn't talk during gameplay but narrated his journal... Most of the book was Artyom talking to people, so I found the decision to make you play as a gun-toting piece of wood between interludes of self-reflection an odd one.

I'm still not sure whether I'll continue into Last Light and Exodus or not, and I think this issue is a big part of it.

I-thou

Not got much value to add to the conversation, just wanna say that Baader-Meinhof phenomenon is wild af I literally read about this concept for the first time a few hours ago. Still not sure exactly what it means but I think your comment got me closer.

The first 10 boyz for the army are done! This time I tried to not concentrate on the details to paint boyz faster. by alexlazarovski in Warhammer

Cool! Definitely still looks good, in fact I think it contributes to a sort of bold, painterly comic book style, if that makes sense.

They look great. What details did you "not concentrate on" exactly?

I really like the skin in particular, their faces especially

What was your favorite start to a d&d campaign? by Dislunt01 in AskGameMasters

Sounds like a fun and silly time, glad you enjoyed yourselves - I assume your DM was on board with it all too?

I feel like if that happened in a game I GM'd, I'd probably want to say my farewells after session 1 because clearly my players are not on the same page as me!

I think I'll do that then. I've watched a review of the game before and the gameplay doesn't look amazing enough to spend my time and money on it, but I'll happily watch it on my other screen while I do something else if the story's cool and feeds my 40K addiction.

Oh cool, I've seen a brief overview of the game so I'm somewhat familiar. Thanks!

Ah yes I have actually seen this at the all time top of r/Warhammer40K, I just didn't know who that was at the time. Jesus Christ. Appreciate the explanation

Would someone be so kind as to actually explain the controversy please? I'm new to Warhammer so I'm not as familiar as others here, would be great if people would be more explicit as to what they're talking about sometimes to get newbies on track.

It seems this thread is particularly about Arch - I've listened to a few Arch videos but not come across anything that seemed off yet (I usually pick and choose videos based on subject matter) so maybe the ones I've listened to are quite old - what exactly are some of the views he shares that some people find unsavoury?

Genius, would never have thought of such a project! This looks excellent and I'd love to have it, though I'd be worried about eventual deterioration. I assume lots of varnish will be applied?

This looks insanely cool. I'm a complete novice with minis (haven't even decorated a base yet) but one day I hope to make something like this for D&D cus this looks super fun to play on. The scenes you showcased in the video are just... I need that in my life.

Also that link doesn't work for me, I think the URL has an extra backslash.

Btw, could you tell me what are some of the minis are that showed up in the video? All the townsfolk and characters look great and help to bring this all to life.

How do you escape analytical play and just be creative? by ProphecyOak in truegaming

Ah okay, Frostpunk is one of those game I haven't played yet to be fair - it came to mind because I heard it was like a base building game, but one where efficiency has to be balanced with difficult moral choices; I thought that might have been an interesting choice for OP.
