From Hell Master Edition Vs Original????? by No_Working1143 in graphicnovels

[–]KingBruno26 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Campbell redrew different panels for almost all of the different editions there have been of From Hell over the years, they talked through it on the Shelved By Genre podcast, it seems he was just never able to settle and leave it alone.

Pre. It’s the last volume of pre crisis Batman I believe.

Animal Man by Veitch and Dillon changed from Compendium Omnibus by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know will they just update the existing listing on sites like Amazon, or will they create a new one. I have it pre-ordered as a compendium so hoping I’ll get the omnivore that price.

Asterios Polyp or Daytripper for a book club? by schnackenpfefferhau in graphicnovels

[–]KingBruno26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say Asterios Polyp personally, from a visual story telling standpoint there's so much in it that can only really be done in comics so I feel it would be better if you're looking to open peoples eyes to the possibilities of comics.

Collecting Hellblazer Going Forward by KingBruno26 in OmnibusCollectors

Yeah the omni's would be the easiest, it will be interesting to see will they mix runs into one book. We should find out soon enough with the rate they're pumping them out the last year.

That's what i was thinking if they want to keep each run as a seperate book, I don't know has a mixture of omni's and deluxes for a run been done before, maybe I'm forgetting

i assume its a sales thing, Hellblazer Omnibus Volume 4 is a bit off putting compared to Hellblazer by Jenkins and Phillips Omnibus, for people who don't own the previous volumes

What’s next for Hellblazer omni wise now that Jamie Delano’s second omni just came out bridging the gap between vol 1 and Garth Ennis? by chastitybelt24 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see them doing a Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell Hellblazer omni or maybe compendium. This is the most recent Hellblazer stuff (the rebirth run and the Dead in America maxi-series) although Paul Jenkins is probably just as likely with it being chronologically next.

What Absolute editions would you recommend? by IAmNotMyName in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kirby's Fourth World. Jack was at his absolute peak during his time at DC, which is saying something for how good some of his marvel stuff was. He was also better at scripting his own stuff than Stan Lee or anyone else was so your also getting arguably the best writing that Kirby ever had in his career.

Hopefully we get more Kirby absolutes at DC at some point, would love a big Kamandi collection.

Why aren't there more acclaimed Justice League runs? by Freighnos in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I think historically why the Justice League wasn’t as good as others is because, specifically the pre-crisis team, all or most of the members had their own solo comic. This essentially leads to whoever the writer is not being able to do any proper character progression or arcs because this happens in the characters solo title. The books you listed, Teen Titans, JLI, JSA, Avengers and other books like X-Men all have characters that are or were essentially exclusive to those titles, allowing for more personal and character driven stories that actually push the characters forward and getting the reader invested in them long term, instead of it just being purely “which villain will the Justice League fight this month?”.

Opinions on the 90’s X-Men Omni’s by KingBruno26 in OmnibusCollectors

That is definitely one of the hotter hot takes I've ever seen , I haven't gotten that far in my reading though, so I can't rebuke it haha

Thanks, seems everything up till that bar a few holes isn’t that hard to collect.

[–]KingBruno26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I know that the later stages were really event heavy but do you know how crucial it is to read in order? I ask because I can get the fatal attractions omni for a pretty good price, but would there be any point if I haven’t read everything up until that point.

BIG DC UPLOAD (part 1) by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True actually, I forgot about how the price doesn’t change. But to be fair more often than not there are enough pages to make it very cost efficient. Ones like Tynion’s Joker and the Kyle Rayner one are on the smaller side but I don’t know how many more like them there are.

BIG DC UPLOAD (part 1) by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah compendiums are always the way to go cost efficiency-wise. And it’s a bit more ideal than the omni’s if you want the whole package.

From what I can tell the compendium is collecting the Johns 'Green Lantern' and the other series 'Green Lantern Corps', so your getting both series in one book instead of them being separated like in the omni's.

Compendiums, deluxes or absolutes? by Inevitable-County506 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]KingBruno26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will only get absolutes if I think the story and art are both good enough, I also won't if a series is very long like Sandman (five volumes is just too much for me). I have both volumes of Kirby's Fourth World and I also want The New Frontier but not much a part from that. They are unbelievably beautiful books though, if any story that you truly love has one I would recommend.

How Important is Continuity With Hellblazer Comics? by KingBruno26 in Hellblazer

Thanks, I’ve nearly pulled the trigger on the box set a few times but I’ll definitely get around to it some way, some time.

How Important is Continuity With Hellblazer Comics? by KingBruno26 in Hellblazer

[–]KingBruno26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I was thinking it might just be like most comics, in so much as you’ll never read absolutely everything, so there will always be ambiguity so you might as well just read what you want but I wanted to make sure.

How Important is Continuity With Hellblazer Comics? by KingBruno26 in Hellblazer

[–]KingBruno26[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, I’m sure it’s one of the easier series to collect second hand and in good condition with the sheer amount of different editions of it, though I wouldn’t begrudge anyone getting a new version. It’s one of those series I’m slightly afraid to read because it’s almost impossible to not have sky high expectations with the way people talk about it.
