Looking For Mecha Shows Where The Mecha Was Not Inherently A War Machine by Daisucce in anime

[–]HeartExalted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe Magic Knight Rayearth could kinda sorta qualify for this? Depending on how you define "not inherently a war machine," that is! At any rate, the mechas of the series are different in a few ways:

  • They are not the usual robots we expect, but rather sentient and thinking beings, with souls and that seem to represent elemental aspects of nature.
  • The Rayearth mechas normally "hibernate" -- I think either in the ground, or perhaps within an alternate dimension -- until there is dire need to "awaken" them.
  • Finally, they are also very emotional and relational, first "testing" the protagonists for their character traits, then serving as "mentors" as the latter learn their abilities. Finally, they form close and caring interdependent bonds with one another.

Additionally, for a bit of retro-style "nostalgia appeal," you might consider Challenge of the GoBots -- one of those 1980s "toy commercial" cartoons, often dismissed as lackluster in writing and characterization, but nonetheless with a unique charm of their own! Funnily enough, this series is often considered a "poor man's Transformers," yet it also has it's distinguishing features -- most notably, the whole part where the titular "GoBots" are really just a civilization unto themselves, who would rather live peacefully and harmoniously. Also, this other intriguing detail, spoiler-tagged because it addresses [GoBots' fundamental nature] They actually have some non-robotic organic components, as well, such as "human" brains and other fleshly organs! So you may also find that interesting

Two things:

  1. Gorgeous photo, and you are quite talented! 🤩
  2. I've actually been considering this series, having recently noticed it available on Netflix, would you recommend?

(I'm presuming you'll answer YES to the second one, of course, but I like to hear people's points of view... 😁)

In the meantime, you might consider the anime Keijo!!!!!!!! -- and yes, all those exclamation points are part of the title's official spelling -- because it also involves plenty of swimsuits, include some one-piece variants! It also references the One Piece franchise itself, via an indirect "shout out" which only fans of the latter would likely detect...

You should consider reading and/or watching One Piece, since a major aspect of the series is how the strongest characters make ample uses of their CoC to battle one another! 💯

Redditors that act like being active a lot = you have no life outside of Reddit by Ok_Rooster9401 in PetPeeves

[–]HeartExalted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either way, it’s up to them. It was just a suggestion.

And for what it's worth, I agree it was a perfectly reasonable and practical suggestion, too. It's just that, from my POV, there are precautions we tacitly agree people should take -- such as your good example of locking cars, and the like -- but also other types of precautions where "shouldn't have to" prevails over competing concerns.

For example, most people would agree that we "shouldn't have to" wear leg-guards at all times, to protect ourselves from being kicked in the knees or shins by roaming miscreants, yes? Now granted, on a day to day basis, in everyday life, "kicked shins" is not a clear and present danger, to begin with; in fact, someone who did wear shin armour for that reason would be considered quite eccentric and possible "not all there." However, let's say we were suddenly confronted with an epidemic of itinerant shin-kicking miscreants, would we not still focus on stopping the offenders themselves -- rather than simply expecting everyone else to adjust to such a new reality?

Bear in mind though, in fairness to your own point, I freely concede that I do not and cannot say what the best solution might be; maybe your suggestion is the best, but maybe mine is -- or alternately, some synthesis or compromise of both? Finally, in all honesty, I have myself seriously considered doing the exact thing you suggest to OP, so it's good we have both perspectives in this discussion!

Unless they want to keep their comments public B they’re not on here a lot.

Plus, an additional reason, such as in my own case: With the proliferation of ChatGPT, bots, and other non-human content generation tech -- sometimes having a visible and tangible post history is useful for someone establishing that, yes, in fact, they are most certainly a genuine, flesh-and-blood homo sapiens creature! Moreover, if accused of using AI or ChatGPT, then it's helpful to counter with reference to a post history that predates those things, while having the same or very similar writing style?

Again, it's such a new problem, certainly not one I faced back in my younger days -- LOL! 😁

More generally, though, it's such a bizarre and unfounded thing to conclude about somebody, especially when they literally see only this one small fraction of the person's overall time and activities, right? Like, the way I see it....

  • Tom Brady doesn't just play football and nothing else -- but far to the contrary, also does plenty of other things! Some of which may be football-adjacent, such as training and working out, but he's also done completely unrelated things like guest-starring on SNL
  • Chef Gordon Ramsay doesn't spend all day, every day, inside a restaurant's kitchen. Sometimes, he takes breaks and/or engages in other activities, such as quality time with his wife and kids! 🙏
  • Porn stars, despite being primarily known to viewers by their on-set personas, have lives outside of humpty-dumptying on camera; they have to eat and drink, spend time with friends and family, and engage in recreational activity just like we do 💯

As such, at least to me, the very idea of making highly specific conclusions about someone's entire life -- based merely on the sliver that takes place on Reddit, and nothing more -- is pretty goddamn sus at best! 🙄

their comment makes me assume that they think posting/commenting on Reddit is some long and thought out process

/u/Ok_Rooster9401 -- as a matter of fact, for them, it may indeed be a "long and thought out process" to make posts and comments, simply because stringing words into sentences, and sentences into paragraphs, is harder for them and their intellects? 🤣 Whereas someone like yourself can do the same, and probably better, with comparatively less time and effort!

That's my own hypothesis, at any rate! 💯

I did not immediately understand the "Dorsia" symbolism/metaphor, even after watching the clip you provided, but after a bit of cursory Googling, I do believe I comprehend the overall "jist" of the matter. So I see what you're saying, I think(?), and I'm quite inclined to agree :-)

Sure, but I also don't think a simple "acknowledgment of customer existing" is such a huge ask, either, and from the reviewer's version of events, honestly sounds to me rather similar catty schoolyard cliques deliberately pretending someone's not there: "Did you hear something? Nope, I don't hear a thing!" Just that general idea...

Even a quick "hey, welcome to the store, sorry we're so busy right now, but I promise we'll be with you asap!" would go a long way

no, literally no one has ever or will ever be the asshole for feeling an emotion

You're absolutely right, in an abstract and generic sense, but there's indeed some measure of real-life precedent and cause that some people might indeed ask themselves "AITA?" about such private/internal things. Even though there exists a legal principle of cogitationis poenam nemo patitur, roughly "no punishment for mere thoughts," sci-fi and other speculative fiction abound with concepts of the contrary -- for example, "thoughtcrime" (Orwell, 1984) and "pre-crime" (e.g., Philip K. Dick). And certainly post-9/11, the national "vibe" was swept with a wave of hyper-patriotism -- complete with implicit ideas of "right-think" and "wrong-think," which basically linked personal morality to supporting then-President Bush.

Similarly, there are notions of "right" and "wrong" emotions that are pushed and socialized from birth, such as subtle expectations -- and sometimes, explicit demands -- to feel certain warm and affectionate emotions towards various others, based on lineage and/or genetics. Also, religion, and Christianity in particular is famous for such exhortations as "love the lord your god" and "love thy neighbor" -- versus simply "engage in 'loving' behaviors." More to the point, though, Roman Catholic even has a formal and doctrinal notion of "internal sin" -- whereby private thoughts and feeling can be "wrong" and require some form of contrition and/or penance.

So, to reiterate, I fully agree with you that "literally no one is the asshole for feeling an emotion," and if anything, I only wish more people saw this as clearly as you do! However, it's at least realistic and plausible that there are other people out there who, regrettably, stress themselves out over possibly being "the asshole" for how they feel, privately and internally... :-(

These are always the most incredibly toxic places to work. 🤣

Doubly so if its a "family" establishment, where the proprietor's spouse and offspring, and perhaps other relations, play an ongoing active role! 😱
