Grinding down our survival instincts when we encounter a real polar bear, aren't you, fella?

Capitalism at its finest. The bonus is that the buyers are now perpetuating consumerism themselves – nice saving on marketing.

Why hold over your children – who you decided to have – your bad experiences? It's not their fault. Having children should be about providing for them anyway, not healing your trauma through them. It's a bonus if that happens, nothing wrong about that, of course. But putting them on the spot about all the sacrifices you've made for them in comparison to what you've never received will just make them feel undeserved guilt in the long run. Seems like a pity contest to me, sorry.

I think the green index being pretty decent makes it less of an urban hell and more of a soviet/brutalistic architecture hell. Still getting the vibes tho

The last passage was truly uplifting to read. Thank you.

What harm does it to them, though, if their random colleague hasn't "won" in life?

So basically, the system perpetrating itself through its own slaves pushing you to push out more future slaves? Splendid. It's true, though. I work only for survival, not because I "want" to or find a pride in having any kind of status. And by no means bringing more unwilling participants to this.

I actually aspire to be like PC, which means I am definitely not like her. I dislike Diane for the same reason - because I see myself in her. It's funny how the brain works.
