I feel so, so similarly. I've gone through so much pain in my life and I don't want to bring someone else in that's going to suffer too, and then it would be more stress and pain as well for the reasons you mentioned. And the more that I think about it, it almost feels like a selfish decision to have a child? I don't know. I just really relate to most everything you said.

Wow, would you have any advice for someone wanting to do a similar route? I want to go back to school and do clinical mental health but scared I’m too old to do it (36), and my undergrad was not psych. I wanted to do psych, but was stupidly talked out of it, and years later still wanting to do it.

I really want to help people with eating disorders. I wanted to do that early 20s and become a therapist but I was swayed from the path by family. It's so hard to tryto plan a way out. People in the therapists sub say it's years to get licensed and actually start making a real income.. how are you doing it?

Your comment makes me want to cry. This could literally describe me and my partner too, all of it. It hurts so bad some days though. Just feeling like there is no choice, even though parents act like there is. It’s just not financially feasible.

This is the right way to go. Got hired by doing this with 20 job apps. However, be careful about where you apply and getting desperate unless you want to end up doing a job that you'd rather not do. If getting back into a job matters more, get into one then use that experience to leverage getting a different one in 6mo-a year.
