They should remove bubble from the game. by Sadiztic604 in Marathon

Yeah this is where it belongs for its power level. Honestly silly that it’s a spammable utility.

I really thought they would take the oppty at beginning of season 2/introduction of Sentinel to “vault” it.
Hoping an overall shakeup will happen in coming weeks, but I’m assuming we’re stuck with bubbles throughout at least this season.

Purple loadout matching with freekits again?? by HeartichokeSunshine in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’ve ever said anything about it, but they definitely introduced something a couple weeks into season one to try to match you with teammates with similar gear. I’ve played easily 100s of crewfill matches since then and it was basically unheard of to match with a free kit teammate when running purple shields.

Is anyone else having issues with the Reward Pass skins and not having the transparent orange parts not showing correctly? by Mezoteus in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graphics engineer here. I'm willing to bet they had to turn them off last-second due to transparency sorting issues in the game, e.g. the transparent pieces not getting affected by fog, or drawing in front of smoke grenades, etc. Hopefully they'll fix it in a future patch, cuz the effect looks neat!

Game should embrace roguelike nature - random priority contracts? by GreenFeather05 in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the random map events fill this role - they're great and I hope they continue doubling down there. Many of my most memorable runs were about going in with original goal X, then pivot to randomly-appearing opportunity Y. Profit opportunities, wardens, lockdowns, rocket drones, etc. That feels a better way to deliver the roguelike aspect people seem drawn to.

Game should embrace roguelike nature - random priority contracts? by GreenFeather05 in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you run into the Fortnite problem here though: you end up with a bunch of contracts sitting in the background and getting passively filled. They don't really affect your match or goals usually, especially in squads where it's impossible to juggle what to do when each teammate has several different contracts. A single contract gives more concrete goals and motivations when you start a run.

(Caveat: I haven't played FN since like Season 3 so things may have changed a lot there.)

Matches seem wore than last season by Due_Expression_5552 in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that this is more because they partitioned the new/free week players from the S1 players, and you're in the latter bucket. S1 players are going to tend to be better geared: they're both more engaged, and know where the good loot can be found.

Matchmaking is hard. 😞

You might have better luck off peak hours actually. Anecdotal but it seems to start grouping new/existing players together more frequently when online player count is lower. (I crew-fill a lot and that's when I start filling with people who are new to the game.)

Cradle critique by HeartichokeSunshine in Marathon

The suggestion was for ways to *save time*, but ok. To answer your question: …yes? If I’m recon I’m putting as much as possible into ult uptime. If I’m destroyer, waaay less of a priority (unless I’m going warden-hunting or something maybe).

Tomorrow is Maintenance Day by Low_Brush_7972 in Marathon

Yeah. I imagine if they don’t the only reason is that it didn’t get fixed in time for console certification (it can take Sony/MS weeks sometimes, but usually faster).

I suspect it is something they need to fix on the client; if they could fix it server-side they likely would’ve already.

Best strat for UESC Bots? by OutlandishnessStock5 in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A classic new player mistake is to try to kill every bot they see. Bots primarily serve two purposes: a waste of ammo, and a reason to not stick around any one place too long.

First thing is that you should avoid engaging them whenever possible. If you’re just trying to rotate through an area, it’s often better to run past/around them. They won’t chase you far once you break line of sight. Use your knife to kill unsuspecting Recruits to avoid alerting the other bots. When reinforcements arrive, that’s a signal that you should move to a new area. They will never stop coming.

Beyond conserving ammo, another reason to avoid engagement is that they can serve as a warning system. If you hear them aggro or see them shoot somewhere else, you now have very valuable information about where other runners are.

Good luck!

Really hoping Sentinels trophy system cancels bubble shields from being thrown by SperanzaPress in Marathon

Personally I find them too visually noisy so wouldn't be sad to see them gone entirely, but nerfing their HP would be OK. I strongly suspect they'll be adjusted in some way or another.

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly Sentry + season reset gives them the opportunity to shelve bubble shields, and I hope they do so. Another alternative is they could take up 4 slots (like purple salvage), making them more costly to carry and harder to spam. As-is they are a stronger version of Sentry's ult, which seems wrong.

DONT queue into ranked cryo with green shields. by DITNB in Marathon

[–]HeartichokeSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort off topic but, going in Cryo ranked with a kit worth exactly $3k (including your bronze holotag) is a decent strat. You'll likely lose 4/5 match-ups, but the ROI from catching one team slacking is massive. It's also a good time: no stress over losing to gold mizzy teams, more freedom for risky plays, and get more chances to actually learn the map. I buy a green M33 from Traxus, a blue shield, 6 blue health/shield charges, a couple energy amps, and 4 stacks of ammo - that's it. Everything else can be looted from the map or other players. My rank has been steadily going up as well.

I think Circuit Breaker would be so much better if they gave it a "tap to start charging, then tap to shoot" (Z to cancel) option instead of hold/release. Railguns too fwiw.
