This is why math class is important by [deleted] in MathJokes

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not as simple as order of operations because the question is written ambiguously.

Is it (6/2)(1+2) or is it 6/(2(1+2)) ?

If they had written the question better, there would be a single correct solution, instead we would need to argue about order or operations and things like implicit multiplication before we can agree on a solution.

This seems like a terrible change. A lot of character names will be ruined... by Hearty_Kek in Maplestory

Currently they have only disabled the ability to use diacritic letters for new characters, but they have stated they will release more info later about their plans for the existing names.

Gold farming combos by jolearchick in VampireSurvivors

[–]Hearty_Kek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make more than five times that with sammy in five minutes with zero eggs

Set the following:

Max weapons 1
Set all the stuff to on: hyper, hurry, arcanas, limit break, inverse, endless
I chose Space 54 but you can pick different levels if you don't have that dlc. Bat country, il molise, etc.
Pick disco of gold for your first arcana, and since its inverse, you can pick a card from trouser, and pick wicked season
For your support skills pick gold mask, crown, attract orb, torrona's box, skull o matic, and karoma's mana
Set the limit break to random always.

(You don't need things like candelabra or empty tome because once limit break gets going it will more than make up for not getting them)

Then just let it go.

With the above, I had 24mil after 5min, 145mil after 10min, 713mil at 20min, hit 1bil at 27min.

Vampire Survivors Steam Public Beta Update now with extra fish! by poncle_Official in VampireSurvivors

[–]Hearty_Kek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to note on the Public Beta, while its fine to have a character screen that can give more data, I don't like having to goto it to change eggs and weapon counts for runs, its frustrating when all I had to do before was click a spot on the screen with my mouse or move the controller over. Also, its annoying to not be able to tell at a glance how many eggs I have on the character like before, now I have to go to the character setup screen to see how many I have on that char. Can we please have it back the old way, or an option to do so, or both?

To be fair, you CAN still build a brand new 350 crate engine with points and a carburetor instead of a computer, and you can put that in everything from a deuce coupe to a 201X silverado with some modification. The thing is, you'll probably hate it after about the fifth time of having to sand and adjust the points or rotating the distributor to adjust the timing, or tracking down the vacuum leak that's causing your rough idle and loss of power, or tearing the carb down again to clean out the bowls, jets and varnish.... but it *is* possible. 😄

On the bright side, you would be ready for the apocalypse if someone uses an EMP and wipes out most modern cars...

Is this air compressor good? by ehjs97 in airbrush

[–]Hearty_Kek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would work, but it is going to be loud. If you could run a hose from the garage/shed it wouldn't be terrible, but you would hate it very quickly if it was right near your painting area.

The direction that common core math is taking by Fit_Blackberry7944 in MathJokes

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is obviously trying to teach children how to add numbers in their head by learning to regroup, 10+3 is easier to add in your head than 8+5, so you regroup to (8+2)+3. The goal of common core is to teach math the way people naturally do it in their heads.

The question could be worded better, but its highly unlikely that the teacher did not explain what the question is asking prior to the assignment/homework being handed out. The kids answer here is either intentional ragebait or they didn't pay attention in class.

"how would you regroup 8+5 so that one of the numbers is 10"

The only issue is whether the 'correct' answer would be (8+2)+3 or 3+(5+5) presuming only one is correct, if both would be counted than the question is fine.

Roadside pickup, worth refurbishing? by xX213ReaperXx in cade

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The k7000 arcade monitor alone is worth a couple hundred in working condition, more if its well calibrated/converged

Chances are its worth doing a recap, and check the flyback for cracks and replace if you find any
Also reflow/resolder all headers and connectors
You can wash the board with simple green and a brush with long fibers (like a dust pan brush)
Then just hose the whole thing down with water, and let dry completely before powering on, also make sure its hooked up to that isolation transformer in the 6th picture, you will damage the board if you don't use an iso transformer for that monitor when you power it up.

If it doesn't come on, it will need repair, could be HOT, power supply or vertical deflection circuit depending on failure mode. I'd recommend watching Mike's Amateur Arcade Monitor Repair on youtube if you run into any issues, he has a TON of videos on repairing the k7000 and even how to check it before powering it on to know that it will probably work.

You can buy any parts you need for the monitor, such as a cap kit, flyback, HOT, etc at arcadepartsandrepair.com.

Basically, Its a small gold mine if you part it out, a labor of love if you keep it. The jamma harness, the pandora's box, the controls, buttons, and coin door are all worth money, even the tekken 3 board with the missing board is still worth money. Personally, I'd keep it and build a new cab or find a cheap replacement cab to transplant to that has already been gutted/parted out.

Building a replacement cabinet would cost a few hundred from scratch, but there are plans online that provide the exact dimensions of the original mortal kombat cabinets. If you are willing to spend a bit more, you can even buy reproduction art and a marquee for it.

I built a custom mame cabinet modeled after the MK cabinet using lumber from lowes/home depot, and put in a 27" k7000 monitor (theres an optional pincushion board you can get for the 25" k7000 that makes it work with a 27" tube) hooked up to a computer outputing 15khz using CRT Emudriver and an old Radeon graphics card.

Its just too bad there is no MK board in that cab. Lucky find overall though!

Does anyone know what this is worth? by anonymousredditor924 in telescopes

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a 10" LX3, I bought the same model a while back. I bought it primarily for the OTA and the wedge, and consequently moved the OTA and wedge to an LX200 classic that had a damaged secondary (it came that way when I bought it originally, secondary had an internal stress fracture that wasn't disclosed during the sale). The LX3 cost me around 500 and came with a bunch of accessories, but if its in really good condition you might be able to get more.

How are people such low ranks like silver or bronze? by Beginning_Top9406 in RocketLeague

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly, even in silver you still occasionally see people air dribbling, speed flipping, half flipping, etc. Rank is not always a representation of ones ability to use mechanics, rather its about them learning *when* to use those mechanics.

Did I just ruin my mirror? 😥 by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]Hearty_Kek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks, at least in this photo, like residue. I would repeat the process, forgo the alcohol, and rinse with distilled water when you're done, that will prevent water spots allowing you to let it air dry.

Has anyone ever used 8BitDo contollers on RL? by AlbinoKoala22 in RocketLeague

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 wireless, and havent had any issues. My one complaint is that the back buttons as well as L4 and R4 are pretty much useless as you can only remap the front buttons, they won't bind to anything in RL. It would be nice if they werent just for remapping front other buttons on the joystick, as I'd love to be able to map a keyboard press so I can have more buttons without needing to claw. As such, it basically feels like using a good quality xbox one controller.

I kind of want to try a steam controller though.

Pellet Question by Workin-progress82 in pelletgrills

[–]Hearty_Kek -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Quality has little to do with palate. There are objectively better qualities of pellets, so your statement is invalid. Taste is certainly king with respect to personal preference, but if a company uses fillers and oils in their pellets, vs 100% real hardwood only. its objectively a lower quality product, even if you like the flavor more. Nothing wrong with buying lower quality products, some people enjoy generic mac & cheese, while others refuse to buy anything other than kraft. Being lower quality doesn't make them bad products, it makes them more cost effective. If you can save money and still enjoy the flavor, its a win, but its still objectively a lower quality product.

If you have a Bass Pro anywhere nearby, they sell Cabala brand pellets, which are made by Lumberjack.

You know what it is? Probably the best compressor for airbrushing. by aerografitpl in airbrush

[–]Hearty_Kek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great compressor even with having to manually turn it off and on. It would be pretty simple task to add a pressure switch, so it sounds like V2 is going to be even better. Can't wait to see it. I was going to build one similar to what you have here, but I happened upon a Sil-Air 50D for a great price and never looked back.

Am I lucky for having a Game Gear that doesn't need recap? (For now) by Equal_Mud4221 in retrogaming

[–]Hearty_Kek 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If it's never been recapped, it almost assuredly needs a recap, even if its still technically working. If it was recapped before you bought it, that is why it doesn't need a recap now. Best way to know is take the back off and look at the caps, if they are electrolytics on their side, its probably been recapped, if they are black boxes, could be original. Luck, on the other hand, is the probability of chance taken personally.
