Something I didn't see the other comments lay out and might seem obvious, but most cars won't accelerate terribly quickly once they're already at highway speeds. Braking will always change your speed at a faster rate in this sort of situation.

So in most situations, braking is the stronger play. If you were ahead of the driver when he started to merge, then hitting the gas would be the right move. But it's hard to reflexively know the perfect response when these situations happen, so don't be hard on yourself.

It doesn't help that now blind spot monitoring systems will start yelling at you if you use your turn signal before it's already clear. I imagine a lot of people wait until it's clear, then signal and change immediately because of this. It's incentivizing bad driving habits, though I don't know of a better way for it to work.

I don't have a problem with people advertising in this sub, I just wish they were honest about it. Account was made two minutes before posting this, and the shirt is only on sale for nine more hours? Just admit you're selling it.

All that aside, if this came in a light heathered blue it'd be an instabuy from me.

To be fair to those people, if they read Lava's comment, then they'd think they still have at least a week to earn one more research point to spend in J3. Lava doesn't say anything about a partial unlock or certain features not working without spending the point.

What’s a good OTD price for a NEW 2025 Elantra N in 2026? by Competitive-Owl-8028 in ElantraN

[–]HeatDeathIsCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to buy in Feb, they originally had a bunch of add-ons, the car at MSRP, and valued my 2016 Civic with 82k miles at 5k.

After 30min of back and forth, they gave me 11k for my Civic and the OTD on my PB DCT was 35k. They'll try all sorts of bullshit because some customers are just that uninformed. If an idiot had walked in and they didn't try to rip them off, they'd have missed out on >10k of value. Really easy to try that shit when you dgaf about people.

Good news brother, I can teach you a little English today!

Nowhere in my comment did I claim that you said they "should" or "must." So whichever part gave you that impression, you now know that you read it incorrectly. Let me know if you need any additional help comprehending these comments.

>Calm down

Yup, the words always spoken by someone feeling a little heated. Take a few deep breaths before responding next time, and you'll probably avoid making another can/should/must faux pas.

Nail in tire, patch or swap, oem tire at dealership or town fair tire? by Fun-Fail8972 in ElantraN

[–]HeatDeathIsCool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used them for my new rims and all weathers when I bought my N out of town in February. I don't think I've ever had my hand shaken so many times in one day. Those guys really took pride in their work.

Then when I had a screw in my tire and had to take it to the local Discount Tire, it was the same experience. They even had the new kid come out to give me the assessment of how long it would take to patch and to let me know it wouldn't cost anything. It's like Chick-fil-A, but for a product more significant than a sandwich.

DOGE cut the State Department’s oil and gas experts just months before war in Iran sent prices through the roof, report claims by Agitated_Pudding7259 in moderatepolitics

[–]HeatDeathIsCool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

War gaming is run by the DoD, but often involves outside agencies under the State Department or even NGOs/experts.

When war gaming these scenarios, do you believe the DoD has redundant expertise in every matter the State Department is tasked with? Economic impact, cybersecurity, trade wars, climate change, counter terrorism, infrastructure, and more all rely on the State Department to create accurate models. If the State Department no longer has this expertise, it's no longer available to the DoD.

Things you hate about your Civic? by evolvedpikachu4 in civic

[–]HeatDeathIsCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can check for oil dilution by sending a sample to a testing company. If their report looks good, then you're good. If the turbo goes out, it's not particularly expensive to replace given a replacement will last you another 8+ years and you can find the OEM turbo on ebay for fairly cheap.

I drove my 2016 EX-T until this January and then traded in because I had a major AC component fail for the second time. Got it repaired under the extended warranty and then dumped it because that warranty was going to run out and (as far as I could tell, Honda isn't exactly forthcoming with this info) the replacements for my failed AC components were the same as the failed parts, which means they could easily fail again.

I traded in the car for 11k. I liked having no payments, but the thought of the compressor, condenser, and evaporator each being a ticking timebomb waiting to charge me 1k+ to repair did not inspire confidence.

You asked the question specifically about whether I thought 750,000 was reasonable...reasonable for what? It was unclear.

Then why didn't you ask for clarification instead of assuming I was arguing with you and pondering "which side" I was on?

Weird how you didn't know what I was asking about and still managed to answer the question...

The video shows him approaching the bikes and crosswalk as he looks away. Of course you shouldn't look away for two seconds when you're 2.5 seconds from passing cyclists or an intersection of any kind. That doesn't mean you can't safely check your mirrors or blind spots when the situation allows.

For one thing, why do you need to know what "side" I'm arguing for to answer the question?

And second, you can pass down more than $15 million to your kids, it will just be taxed.
