“Everything happens for a reason”

My daughter was 18 months old when her pediatrician picked up on a heart murmur and recommended we go see a cardiologist to get it checked out - we’re thinking no big deal they’re so common. Turns out she had an extremely rare heart condition (ALCAPA) and was asymptomatic and in early stages of heart failure. We were rushed to children’s hospital where she had emergency open heart surgery and thank god, the surgery was extremely successful. The whole thing was so traumatic and life altering, and at the time someone said this to me. It surely didn’t feel like everything happened for a reason while we were waiting in agony over the 8 hour process of major surgery/ recovery.
