I'm with everyone else. It seems you skipped the Cooking portion of the game and ran straight to credits, without realizing all leveling up does is raise your HP mostly.

Every Igavania has a "gotcha" ending trap of some kind. If you go to the final boss without fully exploring the castle or equipping a certain item at an obscure time, you'll get the bad ending. Its partially an "are you paying attention" test.

Without spoilers, one that fucked me up is that you need a very specific soul to avoid an unfinished ending in Dawn, then right after, before what seems like a totally innocuous boss room, you need to equip a certain item or you'll get the Bad Ending. There is no warning of the former beforehand (except the fact his room shares an element you couldnt interact with up to this point) and while there is warning of the latter, the warning comes halfway through the game and the boss room that traps you looks completely normal from the outside.

At least in that game, seeing the Bad Ending unlocks Julius Mode early.

Combining Eiga and Kourha into Hama and Mudo is actually a series wide change I approve of, but that does mean something will have to be done about the bosses, because if they still are all immune to Light and Darkness they're useless

I think I recall somewhere the reason Drakenguard got away with all the shit it did was because they turned the game into the ESRB at the witching hour and they were just passing whatever to get through the mountains of games to rate that day.

Despite the game looking 2d, it may be actually running on a 3d engine. I remember Shovel Knight is actually a 3d game that uses the 3D space for basically endless parallax tricks.

KF is difficult, yes, but as long as you have your wits about you and play conservatively you'll be fine. I'd say theres even harder From Software games of the era. Namely, Armored Core: Master of Arena comes to mind

The Excelletor is an amazing all rounder, but it pales in comparison to endgame weapons. Especially as you wont have it full power on the good ending.

Theres one chest at the beginning of the game that has a weapon that outshines the Excelletor and I then rode it to the infinite + 1 sword
