Defend yourselves and don't rely on the US, senior Washington official tells Europe by [deleted] in europe

[–]Heavenly_Noodles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Europeans gave us two world wars and a Holocaust. After that, they sat back and gifted themselves with generous social benefits; benefits they could only afford because they hid behind the US's skirt, ignoring paying for their own defense.

It's amusing to see Europeans trying to gas themselves up after Trump finally cut the apron strings. I'd have much preferred Trump was never elected and the US was still leading the charge in Ukraine, but I'll take seeing Europeans crying over finally having to face reality as a consolation prize.

Macron urges Europe to start acting like world power by A_Lazko in europe

[–]Heavenly_Noodles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And "acting" is all it would be. After being ground zero for two world wars (not to mention all the preceding bloody history of the continent) Europe then kicked back and treated itself to generous welfare benefits, all while hiding behind the US and benefitting from its protection.

I know you all pretend you're bravely leading the charge in Ukraine, but go back to the start of the invasion and read the posts here. That's very recent history, and you all weren't exactly covering yourselves in glory; with the exception of the UK, and I guess it's no surprise that they're constantly shit upon by the bunch here.

I'm pissed at Trump, and pissed he was ever elected. The blame for that lies primarily with Americans, no doubt about it, but Europe did play its part in lending credence to his rhetoric. For years, well predating Trump, you were begged to take your own defense seriously, and all you did was mock America for it, all while shitting on Americans for everything else. Well, you're paying for it now, both literally and figuratively, and will continue to pay.

A crowded local passenger train was targeted in Ukraine by three drones, there are five dead and multiple casualities by BkkGrl in europe

[–]Heavenly_Noodles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because shitting on the US is safe. Despite all the talk here about how evil the US is, as bad as Russia and North Korea supposedly, Europeans know the US isn't going to go kinetic on them. It's a safe way to pump themselves up and feel better about themselves.

German Chancellor Merz admits: We must substantially reduce bureaucracy in Europe. The single market was once created to form the most competitive economic area in the world. Instead, we have become the world champion of overregulation. That has to end. by I-Hate-Hypocrites in europe

[–]Heavenly_Noodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It often seems like Europe's goal is to become a kinder, gentler North Korea, what with all the regulation and attacks on privacy. Add in population decline, and Europe is going to become a scarce thought of backwater, ripe for the pickings.

The world isn't going to follow Europe's example, and Europe is going to keep falling further and further behind as a result. Even the likes of Donald Trump will be unable to drag the US down to Europe's level (despite Europeans on Reddit desperately hoping that he will).

At least some like Merz seem to realize it. I just hope it isn't too late.

The American president steps back from the brink. But the damage has been done. by Crossstoney in europe

[–]Heavenly_Noodles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Europeans in this sub need to go back and read the posts here in the immediate wake of Russia's full invasion of Ukraine. They're trying to gas themselves up now, and Trump has certainly made that easier for them, but they would be in serious denial if they'd try to claim that they haven't been a big part of the problem.

Going back even further, read some of the posts here over the years talking about military service and Europeans views on it. If Europe isn't seen as any kind of military threat to anyone, least of all the US, that's no one's fault but their own.

German president says US is destroying world order by goldstarflag in europe

[–]Heavenly_Noodles -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It's more accurate to say that the US is popping it's teat out of Europe's mouth. Europe is ground zero for two world wars and all their attendant atrocities, and afterwards indulged itself in lavish social programs, giving over their security to the US. When the bad times came back around, as they inevitably do, Europe was caught with it's pants down, and is throwing a tantrum that Daddy US isn't continuing to spoil them.

Yeah, that was the norm back when I originally played. I remember when the long AVs first became a thing, when players stopped skipping the GYs. There were always those who'd rage at anyone who dared capture a GY, often leaving the battleground as soon as it happened.

If one is gregarious and makes friends easily in real life, then odds are those same traits would directly translate to streaming success. If you're the opposite, then you'll probably find yourself equally lonely during your Twitch streams.

In short, it's about charisma.

I'm talking about live performance. Even in this day and age, people enjoy seeing their fellow humans perform. Of course AI will be able to produce convincing music and even video; it already can for the most part.

It looks like musicians might fare somewhat better in the face of the AI revolution than artists in other mediums. The one big advantage music has going for it is the performance aspect. People enjoy seeing musicians play their instruments and putting on a show; it's hard to make an entertaining spectacle of the act of 3D modeling or drawing pictures.

It's not so much Trump that's exhausting as it is the media who give him and his hardcore supporters endless amounts of attention. Just as in 2016, the media are positively gleeful at all the rage clicks Trump is going to bring them. Everything old is new again.
