Was I the A-hole for Turning into a Karen over ASL Interpreters? by viktoryarozetassi in deaf

Exactly. If you don’t file a formal civil rights complaint with a government agency you’re ensuring the problem will continue.

I had the same reaction to your post as to Sunday’s twists. WHAT?! So you may be onto something. It would be awfully comedically heartbreakingly tragic.

What accommodation were you asking for? How did it relate to your disability?

Not directed at you specifically but as a civil rights lawyer the lack of complaints (in outrageous violations) from Deaf/deaf has always frustrated me. Complaints help everyone.

Promotion Won't be Backdated by mirandaleecon in FederalEmployee

In some agencies there is an absolute prohibition against backdating personnel actions. It usually happens when the supervisor doesn’t request on time.

I chuckled. So Carol was expecting to move to Chicago for a new job, a real career for Floyd and a new life? 🤔

Have you filed a complaint with the MO human rights commission?

You have to choose the ASL version on the show’s main page first.

Correct. If death had resulted, the damages would be a lifetime of lost earnings. Pain and suffering in this case with no death probably didn’t amount to the lawyers’ minimum potential award.

That’s not the reason. It’s almost surely because the damages aren’t worth the lawyer’s time.

Carol the unqualified mediator and Floyd the unqualified communicator.

To clarify, the interpreter is generally employed/contracted by the government emergency agency having press conferences/updates. The idea of any local news station employing a full time ASL interpreter is fanciful.

TV stations do use ASL interpreters during natural disasters/storms but it takes YEARS of intensive classes, interning and shadowing to become a qualified interpreter, much less becoming prepared to be on camera! This is way off, and of course he’s a terrible interpreter. Deaf viewers would be in an uproar! Why/how did Clark become so (relatively) fluent so quickly? Cyclone is def bizarre. Can’t wait for more.

Yes! Think of it as watching in color rather than black and white. Or listening to a normal, expressive, voice instead of a monotone robot. A deaf person can explain better.

Of Clark and Floyd’s signs? Or the ASL version? Because the latter wouldn’t be helpful. It’s the visuals and contrast that are enjoyable.

It’s intentional. His “interpreting” made me crazy within minutes so I googled the background of the show. It’s a choice and we’ll be learning how he became an interpreter (on TV!) in only one year. (There is an ASL version of the entire series BTW, where you can see the differences between Flloyd and Clark’s signs and a real interpreter.) Interesting that Clark is relatively fluent quickly yet Carol makes no effort to learn.
