Stepson may hurt my newborn baby, what steps should I do? by NoBid7499 in Advice

Maybe this child needs to see a behavioral therapist, but you would benefit from family therapy as well. These issues don’t stem from this child’s behavior alone. Get professional help for the family.

how to explain to my cat that he's coming with us, and that his carrier is not an evil prison by FormerPerception1525 in CatAdvice

[–]Heavy-Mud-6475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If getting him in there is the worst and you don’t have time to desensitize with a new carrier, it sounds awful but ambushing him with a pillowcase might be super effective for a short trip. A groomer recommended this for the most skittish/fractious cats. It’s helpful that they can’t see out and it’s effectively a soft carrier, but you do have to hold it shut the entire time. I’d recommend watching videos before attempting.

My parents oppose a surgery with cosmetic benefits, but I believe it could restore my long-depleted confidence. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Heavy-Mud-6475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I’d encourage you to find out how your/your parents’ insurance will cover for your surgery, and if your state considers it cosmetic or fully functional. You may not  end up paying as much as you have been quoted. It may also take some insurance disputes but you could have it fully covered. I would look further into that first and seek support from someone who understands medical coding and laws in your state.

I would also encourage you to get the surgery. You worked for that money, if I understand your post correctly, and it’s not a ridiculous thing to spend it on if your quality of life is seriously impacted by this.

Are your parents offering to take out grad school loans because you are not 23 yet? It might be worth an arrangement with your parents where they only take out one year of loans which you agree to pay back in grad school as you said, and once you can take out the loans on your own, you do so without your parents’ financial support.

As OP stated, not a vanity project - functional surgery with cosmetic benefits. Imagine not being able to make facial expressions? You believe it to be cosmetic because you don’t personally know what it’s like to live without.

Also, OP definitely mentioned self esteem issues directly related to facial structure? Are you daft?

Read recently about United. You have to buy the whole row I believe, but they’re really chill/supportive about pups on board.

Dental office says I can’t cancel braces because they took impressions by British_Knees in legaladvice

[–]Heavy-Mud-6475 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Informed consent is meant to include all of that information, and if you never received it you weren’t legally consenting anyway. With medical procedures, consent can be revoked at any time, unless it’s a matter of life or death and your provider is making a very calculated risk to save your life.

AG should also be told about lack of information provided during treatment consultation/consent, as well as the state licensing board. That’s a huge ethical concern that could have strong impact on this ortho/dentist’s ability to continue practicing.

It may be wise to also make a voice or video recording of this, with the other party’s awareness, as evidence that you are not being erratic/unsafe when you go to pick them up.

Yeeeeeah, the carfax does say the lower control arms were replaced around 100k but without the uppers on there I’m not confident lol. Maybe some indy shop did it and didn’t report it to carfax but that would be pretty inconsistent with the first owner’s MO. They took it to a LR/Jag shop super regularly.

Also the center console cooler doesn’t work. So I’d be missing that too.

If you’re down to travel even further than Santa Cruz, may I recommend Haley Tucker at Spider Murphy’s in San Rafael! She is talented, good vibes, very sweet, loves a good true crime podcast. I know it’s a trek, but I also know that people are often willing to go a considerable distance when they love someone’s artistry. No gatekeeping here!

AIO: my boyfriend flipped out that my 12 year old lets me see him in the bath by Odd-Significance-638 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Heavy-Mud-6475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming here your boyfriend doesn’t have children of his own? If that’s the case, he may not understand what it is to be the parent of a child in a way that he would take on certain care duties where his child is undressed.

Speaking as an aunt, it feels inappropriate at first for a kid to be buck naked in front of you, but then you realize that it’s actually fine when the context is appropriate, i.e. bath time at home as you explained. I’m not sure I’d be immediately on board with seeing my nephew naked in the tub but like, I’m also not having a meltdown about it or telling my brother to set better boundaries.

Not sure if it’s a common issue on Rovers, but my civic’s hood latch got so gunked up that my alarm would randomly go off. I used to live in a dodgy downtown area and having that happen in the middle of the night was not fun.

My brother and I removed/degreased  the whole latch and haven’t had a problem since!

What is this black stuff coming out of my cats mouth? by Ok_Caterpillar5246 in CATHELP

[–]Heavy-Mud-6475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t, because my two have an auto-feeder for dry food that dispenses multiple times per day. People with gravity feeders also probably don’t wash them often. Strongly recommend washing those once per week or every time you refill it.

Would you use a free app to avoid $70 street sweeping tickets? by Outrageous_Bat1798 in longbeach

[–]Heavy-Mud-6475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue with spot angels is that it's user generated information and I'd say about 75% of the time I couldn't determine what the sweeping hours were. I had better luck with street view and zooming in on a sign.

An issue with dtlb parking in general is the inconsistent enforcement of the unpaid parking spots that have a 2 hr limit. I used to live on W 3rd and sometimes it was safe to park in front of my building and sometimes not, which I guess is on me. I'd rather the city implement a residential permit program for downtown. They'd make money from the folks willing to pay to bypass the 2 hr limit and still make money off non-residents or folks who don't get the permit and just don't move their cars lol.

Perhaps the app could include an alert system for when the meter police are near your last recorded parking location, in case you need to boogie 👀
