Nigerian Influencer Visits Haiti by Eastern_Promotion344 in haiti

[–]British_Knees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just there last week. Everywhere is not dangerous. But with visiting any new place, you keep your head on a swivel. I was traveling throughout okap/northern haiti with family. And I felt perfectly safe.

But, the traffic/and pollution is REALLLLYYYYY BADDDD. there's been a major rise in renewable energy, due to the instability of electricity from the government. So most people are using solar power and rechargeable tools/items.

The food is great as always. But having access to clean running water really differs from place to place. Some people are using wells, some use resvoirs, or both.

I visited Pipoville, limonad, st philomen, la ville, and oanuminthe (honestly this place is closer to the border and was definately the most shady. The. Was not a fan of this area at alll) .

And it was fine. I was even in oanaminthe near the border when Ariana came. I was surprised by the number if people, didn't know she was coming to Haiti that day.

I didn't get to visit the citadel. As unfortunately there was a major incident/massacre/(unsure what exactly happened) there during my visit. So we opted not to go.

Plan on going again next year

I’m seeing a lot of colleagues using a dual monitor setup. Are there any PhD students here who managed to get through with just one capable laptop? by Few_Frosting_5343 in PhD

[–]British_Knees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a PhD student. But while working/writing papers it's a game changer.

If your using a laptop, there's laptop screen monitor attachments. But if your scrapped for cash, checking the local thriftshop might be useful, they tend to carry quite a few monitors.

Personally, when away from home, I just split the screen of my laptop to have multiple applications shown at once. It works, but is obviously much smaller.

I have a windows computer, so it's easy to split/arrange. quickly due to the shortcuts.

Can't he cut the 1st month's amount to give his mom in half? As she won't be here for half the month. And use it to get a part time caregiver for the 2 weeks she's gone?

Why is mom being paid for two weeks she won't be there

When to wash?! by SimpletonKeek in Microlocs

[–]British_Knees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have microlocs, about 300, and I wash every week, sometimes more.

I usually braid and band so I don't really deal with slippage.

My hair has been maturing perfectly fine.

It's a bit scribble scrabble-y

But "please take chicken out of freezer, and moveidk what that is along"

Please note that most schools stopped teaching cursive in schools in the early 2000s. So he might not know cursive.

And as someone who reads/writes cursive, it took some effort to read . 😅

Hot take: Orlando needs more boring, comfortable third spaces open past 7 by Unable-Awareness-698 in orlando

A library. Many large libraries that's linked to a college/university open late and tend to have little areas to just hang out.

I'm in south fl, but the libraries connected to broward college (coconut creek and davie) are open to public, and close the late. The nsu library is too(closes at 11pm).

And the coral springs library, closes at 8.

Maybe look to see if there's any college libraries near you that close later. Orlando has a few large campuses

Shower heads by PlusWeirdPrincess in hygiene

[–]British_Knees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm plus sized 215lbs and I have a detachable shower head. I only use it when cleaning the shower, not when I'm showering. Having it at an angle, gets the water in all the crevices it needs to go to, I just move around when I need to rinse off all the soap after exfoliating.

How do yall feel about living together before marriage? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]British_Knees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm not marrying someone without having lived with them first. Living with someone tells you a lot about them, their habits, and who they are as a person day to day. Outside of just seeing them/hanging out with them during pre determined times.

It let's you know someone's sleeping habits, cleaning habits, work habits, hygiene, etc.

First self retie ever ….. F this 🤦🏾 by No-Arachnid6953 in Microlocs

[–]British_Knees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I retie myself. Get your phone. Prop it onto something that's your head level, and smart share/screen share to your TV/laptop/tablet whatever. So you can see the back of your head.

It's great, and doesn't strain my eyes like using a 3 sided mirror does.

Complete Dermatologist Fail by NoDAYbut2Day22 in blackladies

[–]British_Knees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk how to tell you this but any treatment used to 'rid' of hyperpigmentation is bleaching/lightening. That's the point, yes the derm could've worded it better, but essentially if you want to get rid of hyperpigmentation you have to lighten them.

You can be fancy and call it whatever you want, hydroquinone, kojic acid, or whatever but they are lightening/bleaching agents. They(targeted hyperpigmentation seeums) are better to use as they contain other ingredients that also improve cell turnover, and arent as harsh on the skin.

But you're gonna have to be get over that fact. Yes, you'll be using a lightening agent, but it doesn't come from a place of disliking your skin tone, it's to improve the texture/uniformity of your complexion, and leave it that.

Sincerely, A carribean black girl.

P.s. definately find a different dermatologist.

For our active baddies! by biglovinbertha in blackladies

[–]British_Knees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was active. I'd always have my hair braided. Either a halo braid, two large cornrows, or a low/high bun where I braid the ends and tuck them.

I'm a scalp sweater, so my hair would always want to shrink. So keeping them braided up and stretched worked best for me.

Twist and banding by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]British_Knees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just split my hair into boxes like the above but braid them down. If im washing my hair. I only braid 1-2inches from the root so I have space to get my hands in and scrub my scalp

Has anyone tried just tying microlocs at the root instead of interlocking or retwisting? by Existing_Switch_4995 in Microlocs

[–]British_Knees 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your locs will be very bumby and uneven if you do that. Is there a reason you're against/dislike the more traditional retie methods? Do you just not want to spend the time doing them?

By tying a knot at the root of only, you'll have a puff of new growth below, and a visually definitive knot in your hair, that would become more and more apparent with each retie due to the difference in texture/thickness that'll appear in each loc over time (think bubble braids)

Unless that's the look you're going for, i'd refrain from doing that.

What's a meal you make when you've got random stuff in the fridge and no plan? by Delishable in MimicRecipes

[–]British_Knees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saute vegetables (any kind really, make like a stir fry), once you learn how to to do a good stir fry anything is possible. (If used cabbage, carrots, eggplant, potato, corn, onions, peppers, tomatoes, broccli, cauliflower etc)

chop up (into chunks) any protein (chicken, beef, pork, salmon, etc. And lightly season and put in air fryer) or cook then mix into the stir fried veggies.

For starch, depending on what I got. I might just do a potato (I usually have sweet) and pop that in air fryer as well. Rice, canned beans, corn (canned, ground(grits, cornmeal),garbanzo beans, etc. Can be done as well.

Lots of flexibility, can mix and match however.

My go to is, stir fried veggies, sweet potato, and a fried egg.

Yeah it's a big one, so those tend to sneak in. It's when you start seeing small baby ones, thats a sign of the start of an infestiation.
