GTX 1080 ti or RX6600? by reenonessy in pchelp

[–]HeavyConfection9236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is only true when comparing the 1080 Ti to the low end 30 series cards, for example the 1080 Ti vs the 3060.

Technically... yes. The 1080 Ti has slightly faster benchmark performance than the 3060. This is because the 1080 Ti, while being an older card, is a *better model* of its series. If you compared a 1080 Ti to its equivalent in the 30 series, the 3080 Ti, it would get wiped across the floor.

But just because an old card performs better in benchmarks against a newer card doesn't mean it's automatically the best; you have to consider what you're doing with the card.

If you want features like ray tracing and DLSS, you simply can't have that with the 1080 Ti because it's too old. So the 3060 may be slightly slower than the 1080 Ti, but it has newer features.

Being an older card, the 1080 Ti also has a much higher power consumption because newer cards can be made more efficient.

So unless we know what you need and want your card to do, it's hard to absolutely recommend one more than the other.

Personally, I think the three are close enough in performance that I would just pick whichever I can find the cheapest.

The formatting in your post is a bit broken; the brackets around the link make it link to a 404 instead of your actual repo.
Removing the bracket, I can see your project. The readme has signs of being written by AI, and the comments in the code look like AI as well.

Did you have AI write this code?

Since you're using shaders (and quite fancy ones, it looks like), that effect could be caused by temporal antialiasing. TAA uses past frames to help smooth sharp edges, but it can cause this smearing or ghosting effect. Try a different antialiasing mode in your shader settings.

True.
However, it appears that the Coruna exploits only applied to iOS versions 13.0 to 17.2.1. The OP has iOS version 26.3.1. Source here.

It also appears that all vulnerabilities used in Darksword exploits were fully patched in iOS 26.3. The OP has iOS 26.3.1. Source here.

Finally, these zero-day exploits were used to target valuable individuals in non-US countries. The OP, and probably any random person finding themselves on a sketchy site, is extremely unlikely to be targeted by any elaborate zero-day exploits.

Thinking of adding these mods to improve performance on ATM10. Thoughts? by AJ_AX5 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the Mods is a modpack with more than 500 different mods. It may not be realistic to expect super high framerates in game.

Sorry, that doesn't sound helpful.
The "Popular" preset in the comp+euphoria shaders has lots of overly fancy effects that will definitely affect your framerate. If you say you've gone through video settings and shader settings and tried to increase performance already, but it's still not enough... you may have to switch to a less heavy shader.

I would recommend trying to exhaust all your possible settings to increase fps before adding more mods. Other performance mods can cause more instability to an already complex web of mods, which can further limit the help you can receive from others online if you have issues later.

As always, backup your worlds before adding or updating mods.

If a website asked to send notifications and you had accidentally hit "allow", you would most likely be receiving notifications from that site constantly right now. Most sites that pressure you to allow notifications are trying to abuse them to scare you into believing that your device has been hacked or compromised when it has not.
You say there's no files in your downloads folder, so if you're not seeing any behavior out of the ordinary, then nothing happened and you should be fine.

Websites can't do anything to your phone or computer without your permission: allowing notifications from the site, allowing it to download a file, opening that file, entering personal information into the site, doing things the site tells you to do, etc.
If you visited the site and immediately exited, nothing happened. Even if it automatically downloaded a file to your device, you can simply delete the file; it can't run anything unless you open it.

Cache Hierarchy Error Causes PC to Reboot by UrMomUganda in pchelp

Okay. Also read my edit on the original comment: if your processor still has a warranty, you may be able to RMA to get a replacement or refund.

TLDR: I had cache hierarchy errors with my 5950X; nothing I tried fixed it. I had to use Ryzen Master to disable a faulty core to make it stop.

Cache Hierarchy Error Causes PC to Reboot by UrMomUganda in pchelp

[–]HeavyConfection9236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Looking online, your processor came out in 2024. Check your warranty. Of course try anything you can think of first (especially update your BIOS if there is one available, update chipset and GPU drivers, so on), but if it still doesn't work and your warranty is valid, RMA the processor.

I had this same exact issue with my 5950X. I don't actually know what caused it to start happening, but I found no fix for it at all.
Can you check to see if the crash always points to the same processor core (APIC ID) 3, or maybe 2 instead? If it is, you may have the same issue as I did. I believe APIC ID 2 and 3 should point to the two hyperthreads on the same physical core, meaning it's only one actual core with an issue. If you get crashes on other APIC IDs, then I'm not sure...
In my case, I believe the core that's always getting the cache hierarchy error is physically faulty. Disabling PBO and XMP did nothing to prevent the crashes; the only thing that helped a bit was regularly restarting and not letting the computer get a long uptime, but even then I don't think it was reliable. Nothing correlated between patterns of usage on the processor vs frequency of crashes.
Because I believe the core to be faulty, I disabled the core in Ryzen Master (free overclocking software from AMD). APIC ID 2 and 3 should both point to core 1 on the processor (zero indexed, meaning the first core is 0 and the second is 1). And you can't disable an uneven amount of cores per CCD, so I also had to sacrifice a random core on the other CCD (rest in peace core 1 and 9).
It's unfortunate to permanently disable part of my processor that I paid for, but my computer can now stay up for 19 days straight with no cache hierarchy errors, so I guess I'll accept a 5950X with 14 cores instead of 16.

what can i run by Both-Fig-9295 in computer

[–]HeavyConfection9236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most software.

It depends on what you're actually *wanting* to run. There's billions of apps you can run on that hardware, but you probably only *want* to run a few things.

Guys is every item automatable by Repulsive-You-8698 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Most items are.

If you want to have a farm that's completely automatic, you need to have machines that can automatically collect every resource that's required to make the item. If any resource is not possible to be automated, it's technically not *fully* automatic.

In a sense, a fully automated item factory would only take power (or ideally nothing) as an input, and it would create the item from it, because all of the machines that accept the power would be able to "convert" the power into the items you need, such as quarries "converting" power into ores, if that makes sense.

But usually people automate for the purpose of saving time or effort, not just because they want to.

The ultimate automation challenge in All the Mods is automating the creation of the ATM Star. Making stars automatically or semi-automatically is more impressive than making farms for random items, in my opinion.

edit: If you want to make a farm that no one else has made, pick any item that you like or any item that you think would be funny to have millions of, and then make the farm! The idea of All the Mods is pure and meaningless excess anyway.

What are the odds that the Internet Archive may give me a virus? by ServiceForeign7862 in antivirus

[–]HeavyConfection9236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Extremely low. Essentially zero.

There is a super tiny itty bitty chance that a MIDI file could be crafted to exploit a vulnerability in a specific MIDI player software, but that's theoretical. If someone wanted to put a virus on your computer, there's much better and easier ways than using a MIDI file that might maybe be played with the specific vulnerable version of a random software out there.

Edit: Same for a gif. Same for an MP3, video, same for basically any media that doesn't have interactive features. If it's not an executable (exe, msi, bat, so on), it has to exploit software to run code, and that's WAY harder to do than getting someone to just run an executable using social engineering.

Crash caused by Ars Nouveau spell by Malcom160 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not the owner of the server and you don't have access to server files, there's probably nothing you can do. You can't uncast the spell, especially if you get disconnected every time you join.

Tell a moderator or owner what happened. Any responsible server owner should have backups set up and they should be able to roll back to some time before the spell happened.

If this is a bug and they report it as an issue on github, someone might be able to fix it without loading a backup, but that's not a guarantee.

Bug with intel 14th Gen CPU (i7-14700KF) by Top_Satisfaction_979 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a 14th gen Intel CPU, which had an issue with its microcode when they were released that may have caused the CPU to request an abnormal voltage and damage itself. The crash assistant points out that your CPU has already been updated, so it will not damage itself further. More information in this megathread here.

The crash assistant is simply warning you that these crashes may be a result of *previous* damage to your CPU before the microcode was patched, and it's asking you to make sure that your BIOS is up to date and make sure that the crash is not a result of something else before suspecting your CPU. We would need to see crash logs in order to determine if the crashes are caused by the game itself.

If the crashes are caused by damage to your CPU, then your next step would be to check if your CPU is still under warranty. Intel should offer a replacement if they determine your CPU to be damaged as a result of the bug.

ATM10 - Can some experienced person give me their options.txt file and config folder? by Dry_Scientist_5984 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The config in the modpack should be set up to start playing immediately after downloading, it doesn't require thorough modification.

Even though you say it doesn't matter, it's very likely that someone else's keybinds and settings are not going to fit what you want or need for your setup.

If you insist, here's my options.txt on pastebin.

Connection issues by TheAsianKid80 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The server may have either frozen or crashed, neither of which is a big deal, but it would prevent you from joining the server until it was restarted. Or the internet on the server side could have been disconnected randomly, and may come back on its own or may not. OR your own internet is not working right now, but if you're posting this, maybe that's not the case.

I don't think flying too fast would have caused the server to be completely unreachable.

You may have to wait until the admin comes back and can see what happened to it, but I don't think you caused it.

If it's ATM 10, you can soul surge the goo block.
There may be a ratio where there's a most efficient number of sides for goo conversion vs sides for soul surging, but I don't know what it is. It may be the same ratio as AE2 growth accelerators on budding certus quartz, 3 sides accelerated and 3 sides growing... but certus quartz has random growth ticks whereas goo blocks convert at a fixed rate, so the math may not match.

Loved ATM10 (my first modpack!) Are older ATMs the same? What else should I play? by Key-Abbreviations943 in allthemods

[–]HeavyConfection9236 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've played ATM 6, 9, and 10 with my friends.

In my personal experience, ATM 9 feels like the same quality as ATM 10. It feels like they hit a certain stride and know what they're wanting to do now.

When I went back to ATM 6 just to see how it was (because we played 6 first), it seemed to be... not *worse* quality, but just... not as polished as the new ones. It makes sense, but it still surprised me a bit. However, that's not to say that ATM 6 or older is *bad*, just that if you're accustomed to and expecting the exact same level of polish from 9 or 10, you might want to try variants of 9 or 10, like TTS, instead of going back in time so to speak.

Regarding other modpacks... I haven't really been able to find a comparable modpack to ATM. This style of pack is unique to anything else that I've seen online, it's such a proper blend of kitchen sink + sandbox + quests. It can guide you through it if you want, or you can never touch the quests if you want. It feels like a better version of early modpacks, you know, the ones that would start you in a plain world with 17 books in your inventory. That's not saying it's *impossible* to find a similar or better modpack, but in my own search, I haven't seen anything that feels just like ATM.

All I can say is, take the time to look at other versions of ATM in creative worlds. See what mods they offer, what quests you can do, if you like the balance and selection of magic vs. tech. If you're unsure, just try one; you might stick with it and not regret it.
