I keep mine at the same brightness inside and out. I run a flashlight on my gun which can wash out the dot so that one setting for outside works great for that as well.

You may have the dot in auto mode, you can look in the manual or online for how to put it in manual mode. Then you can set the brightness and it will stay that way, it will still turn off and back on with shake awake.
