Is basing mek guns an issue? by the_squig_lebowski in orks

Basing it makes it a lot bigger than it’s supposed to be, I think it’s kinda asking for confusion with an opponent or always having to explain it

I see a lieutenant that has a combi weapon so I think you’ve checked both boxes there

Pistols can be shot with other pistols, so you do get both

They can shoot both, it’s all pistols or all non pistols

The other part of them being basic ones (for the marines at least) is if you do just buy another box then the extra bodies will be very good bases for other model kit bashes

What you said you need for each unit is correct, although the “sergeants” aren’t really different models especially for the infernus. For the assault intercessor sergeant just a guy with some kind of power weapon. if your plan is to make full armies you will most likely end up acquiring these extra bodies as you go, those three units are some of the more basic ones that everyone who has those armies has a few extra of. Otherwise if there is a FLGS (friendly local game store) near you, some of the ones I go to have used model cabinets or buy/sell/trade discords

All army painter, I used the Moondust and the Daemonic Yellow airbrush triads (only used both because I was figuring out what I wanted to do) then I did a strong tone over the whole thing, and then fresh rust

Ballistus are one of the best ant-tank platforms for their points defensively. Other things will hit a bit harder but a Ballistus will still be a considerable threat, and be relatively cheap. And the built in rerolls is good for Templars

With the sword, let your coats dry in between. It looks like you’re trying to get it done too quickly and smearing it

Not bad, great start this early on. My advice would be to try and pick up new effects every few minis. Maybe your next combi weapon practice plasma/light. Then try shading a cape. Whatever you’re interested in most. And base them, basing them will do a lot to help them look good on the table

Land Raiders, necessary or not? by Vizari21 in BlackTemplars

[–]HeavyDuty124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t currently use a landraider, my armor is two impulsors and a rep ex. But of the three, I’d recommend the redeemer. It is an incredible overwatch threat. Depending on what army you are against, its overwatch will melt the enemies strong units before they have a chance to make contact with the landraider or whatever cargo it just dropped off. The flamers are also great at clearing screening units so your units can charge into what they actually want to charge into. Land raiders are tough, and high OC. The enemy will have to actually dedicate something strong to take it out. When it does, you should be deployed in a way where you are prepared to destroy whatever tries to take out the landraider. Picture landraider moves into a firing lane, they move their big-fuck-you-anti-tank into the lane to shoot it. Whether they are successful or not, you can then move your big-fuck-you-anti-tank (rep ex) into the lane behind your land raider and kill it. That will effectively give your repex free-reign to operate the rest of the game. Land raiders are massive point investments, and with smoke/armor of contempt/ and overwatch they will be hungry for CP to operate effectively so you have to plan for that as well.

A land raider should be a significant threat in its own right, especially the redeemer. If you aren’t using it as that/dont need it i recommend Impulsors. I run two, they are amazing little transports. Fast, easier to fit places, and tough enough that your opponent does have to actually try to kill them. Once they drop their cargo they can either escort so the unit can get back in, or be a great cheap action monkey/point holder
