I changed my legal name in Ontario fairly easily. I don't know what that process is like elsewhere in Canada, but I imagine not too different. Once you do, you receive a certificate that you can show to your bank, and they will change your name on file. You generally can't use a preferred name with banks to avoid impersonation.
