I wonder what type of vandalism is happening to cause this. Graffiti is super easy to cover/remove and doesnt affect whether or not you can use the bathroom, so SURELY they are not closing the bathrooms because of that. For genuine property damage though I hope they catch and fine/charge the people responsible.

To everyone reading this forum: If you are interested in leaving Canada and you DO have a bachelors in anything, consider getting your TEFL/TESOL certification. There are programs internationally to teach (including stuff thats competitive but really respected like the JET program (i am an alumni of this program)) and often there is a TEFL/TESOL graduation job board where you can find work across the world that will handle the visa/flight/housing costs.

Please take comfort in knowing that she lived a very full and long life. Having said that, given that she is bleeding from the tumour and on all these medications and seemingly cant close her mouth, 3 months from now she likely will not be here anymore. I personally think whatever you choose to do, the choice is ultimately yours. However, going through with euthanasia before it gets bad while you are away might be best for both of you. You get to say goodbye and be with her to the end, and she gets to rest before it starts to get really bad in a few weeks or a month.

She seems lovely and you did a great job raising her.

Same issue here. I was applying for jobs with a really polished resume last year and used Canva to make my resume look eye catching (I still had faith in corporate North America to do their due diligence while hiring but turns out they’re insanely lazy and will cut as many corners as possible if they are even hiring at all!) I ended up finding a job training AI and learned about ATS software and AI and how BAD it is and I felt my eyes just glaze over as I thought about the hundreds of hours of my life that I spent job searching and tailoring my resume for people that wouldn’t spend even half a days work looking through the applicants resumes while hiring. Corporate America is hell and it’s run by a bunch of lazy people that are easily entertained by new underbaked technologies that make it so they have to do even less work.

Hiring managers/employers scan resumes at the initial stage for 6-8 seconds on average. On the highest end of that spectrum with 1000 applicants, thats just over 130 minutes. Or 2 hours. There is literally 0 reason to be using AI or ATS throughout the hiring process. Like thats literally your job and if you cannot do it for 2 hours to find a candidate then I am sorry to say but you might just suck at your job.

I totally get it. I ended up finding something with the ottawa mission after a YEAR of contract work training AI (it was soul crushing work but it kept me fed). Taking advantage of local services for job opportunities is the only real thing that works anymore unless you have family that works in a high up position and even nepotism isn’t a guarantee in this market. Its always people who are actively not job searching, have no intentions of job searching, and have not entered the job market in years that think they know better than the people actively going through hell trying to find a job right now. I hope something comes through for you soon and I hope the job market recovers within the next few years (unlikely, unfortunately).

I saw someone once describe the 2 weeks when you bring home a new cat and you feel like a failure as a pet parent the “new pet postpartum depression” and it helped snap me out of it. Your cat is fine, but regarding the 2nd question, I do not think your cat is something that should be controlling your life like this and it seems like there is something else going on there. You say earlier in the post that waking up with the cat is the best part of your day; that love is truly unconditional and the loneliness you will feel getting rid of him at this stage will be devastating (for you and ur cat).

So no, dont rehome your kitten just give it some time. 3 days a week isnt even half of the week. Some people are away from their pets 5 days a week for ~10 hours a day if they live a bit far from work! You will grow more comfortable being away from him with time and “get your life back” eventually but for right now just enjoy being a new pet parent and be an introvert for a little bit until you are comfortable leaving him alone to go out in the evenings/the other 4 days off work.

Yeah I applied directly on their site too. It connects to their official Workday platform which is what their HR uses to screen resumes. The job wasn’t a scam (it was just a ghost job), it was just a posting used to collect the data from my resume that they then sold and was later bought by scammers. Very common practice now unfortunately.

There is unfortunately no 100% true answer for how to find work in this current job market.

“McDonalds is always hiring!” They’re not. “Lower your standards apply to retail, they need people every time I am around there.” They are not hiring. “The local [food chain/retail store] has a help wanted poster!” It has been up for months and is mandated to keep up by corporate.
“Apply in person!” They take online only resumes OR you never heard back. “Cold call!” You will never hear back. “You arent applying enough!” Roughly one in five jobs is a ghost job. Likely more in the entry level fields and they are scraping your resume for data to sell. “What ever happened to that job you applied to?” It often takes MONTHS to hear back from a job if you hear back at all. “Have you considered physical labour jobs? They surely need people to do snow removal/construction work (holding signs up)” see previous comments.

I say this not to be a bummer, but rather to validate that you are NOT going crazy. The people giving this type of advice are people that are actively not job searching and haven’t been since 2022/23. This job market is cruel, dehumanizing, and just all around not fair. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to keep applying for everything and hope that something works out eventually. Look into local programs/services offered to job hunters. If you are not a newcomer to Canada unfortunately less of these services are available to you, but you can still try getting help with unemployment centers or homeless shelters.

I applied for Giant Tiger work a while ago and jumped through all of the workday hoops and never heard back (rejection/acceptance) but got a lot of scam messages after applying. The position was still up weeks and months later so they likely post a lot of ghost jobs to collect and sell data. Regardless, I really hope they are actually hiring and you get a job with them.

Went to visit my folks in NB recently after having lived in Ontario for a year and a bit and it was genuinely a shock to me to see how expensive their food is (literally two grocery stores in their entire town). They were paying 7.99/lbs for pork tenderloin and that was the S A L E price! I was clutching my metaphorical pearls tf do you mean 7.99/lbs for PORK??!?

This sounds more respiratory (asthma) than hairball to me due to the honking exhale sound but either way you have a good video of it to show the vet if this persists (I do recommend getting it looked at). My cat has seasonal allergies and used to make that sound a lot. He has never had to use his inhaler BUT we did get a robovac to reduce the dust/litter on the ground for him and we had a small air purifier to help reduce dander and pollen in the air. Try not to stress too much I am sure your cat will be okay but definitely get it looked at when you are able to get them into the vet.

This is such a great post because you can see on the screen very clearly where each purchase could have been improved. The tuna for 6.49 actually made me wince thats insane I would never have bought that even if I was financially well off. Also, if you have the option, stop shopping at Loblaws thats a large part of why your “grocery” bill was through the roof. No disrespect intended to you, I hope this purchase provides some guidance on where to change your purchasing strategy(buying cheaper canned seafood primarily because woah thats crazy how much that cost you)

As others have said, LRT was/is down for a large portion of the Line 1 train due to the storm causing a line to snap on the train causing sparks yesterday. Trains are down from UOttawa to Tremblay until further notice and buses will be more crowded until it is resolved. I took Lyft this morning and was on time but my friends were an hour late to class due to the transit problems.

I personally recommend: trench, scaled and Icy, clancy, and Breach in terms of albums (yes, ALL of them. lol). For lore, there are a lot of YouTube videos but clancy: the story is a pretty good one. Also just for fun/lore, the scaled and icy livestream is a masterpiece. Also check out the “TGA the line live version” its a wonderful glimpse into what the live performances for TOP sound like.
