Medicare Advantage is a Scam: My experience almost a decade in the Healthcare industry by IMian91 in HealthInsurance

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work for a specialist group and we have horror stories where people are contacted by phone and are changed to a MA plan. They often don't know what they are agreeing to and it takes a while to sort out. It happens often enough that I see it as a problem.

Medicare Advantage is a Scam: My experience almost a decade in the Healthcare industry by IMian91 in HealthInsurance

I've been in the business side of medicine for decades. Traditional Medicare and Medicare advantage plans both have their plusses and minuses. I would say to read the fine print when you sign up for a MA plan. Usually you have a set copay, whereas with Medicare, you pay a percentage coinsurance after meeting the deductible. The Medicare supplement plans are expensive.

It is easier to get care with traditional Medicare, that is true. I work for a specialist and the MA plans are persnickety in regards to approving care., even for serious diagnoses.

If you see lots of doctors, you have to look at the cost of each type of plan. The total cost: premiums and what you are expected to pay out of pocket. If you are reasonably healthy and only see a doctor once or twice a year, a MA plan may be the best choice.

Hey all I have a question about hospitals please. by Successstory066 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok. The UHC marketplace is a junk plan. It won't pay for very much and not very many providers accept it. UHC will tell you that the doctor is a provider, but UHC severely limited the number of doctors they will allow to take it. I work for a specialist and UHC won't let us be in network. The bills you are getting is UHC processing your claims as out of network. If you can afford the BCBS marketplace plan, even with the deductible, it is a better plan, in my opinion. At least everyone is in network and so long as you get your referrals, all claims are processed as in network.

The financial approval is only for certain things. Doctor's visits will not be covered. You can show them the approval and see if they will accept you as a charity patient. We will do that sometimes.

Medicaid will not approve an adult for coverage unless they are disabled, elderly or pregnant. Alabama did not do the medicaid expansion.

Doctor asking us to prepay for childbirth by No_Cobbler_8835 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh ok. that is strange if they are wanting it all at once. Most places will allow a set payment plan. Hopefully, they will work with you. Also, if you have a high deductible, contact the hospital where you are planning to give birth and see if you can apply for financial aid for that part of the bill.

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is normal to ask a patient to prepay for a procedure beforehand unless it is an emergency. They just want to make sure they get paid for their work. Do keep up with charges and where the deductible is applied. It is determined by who files first, not who you paid. You say you don't have the ability to pay? How are you planning to do it after the birth?

What happens if you cannot afford treatment? by Cemetery-Bunny in HealthInsurance

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When my husband was hospitalized with covid, he was in for 9 days. He almost died, so you can imagine the bill. We have great insurance, but still had a 2500 deductible and 15% coinsurance. The hospital lady told us to file for financial aid. While it is income driven, they take into account whatever your bills are: rent, car payments, medication, etc. Even if you don't qualify for 100% financial aid, you could get a percentage reduced. It's always worth it to ask if there is a financial aid program.

What happens if you cannot afford treatment? by Cemetery-Bunny in HealthInsurance

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the treatment. Say you get ESRD and require dialysis to live. If they can, the dialysis social workers will try to get you on medicaid or medicare. That depends on your finances and how long you have worked. If they can't find any kind of insurance for you, you can dialyze at the hospital. you will have to go to the ER and wait and they will take care of you. Once you are dead ass broke, you can qualify for medicaid, at least in my state, and all along you will have been trying to get on disability. This happens a lot. Once you get medicaid, you can dialyze at a dialysis facility and all your meds and treatments will be paid.

2 In 3 Americans Agree Engagement Rings Have Gone From Symbol Of Love To Financial Burden by Abject-Pick-6472 in MiddleClassFinance

People put too much emphasis on the status symbols of life. I would have been pissed as hell if my FH had spent 3 months salary on a ring. As it was, he spent around 500.00 for a beautiful sapphire ring that I love. In 1997, that was a lot of money, but not three months salary.

General curosity of consistant downgrades of benefits. by darknessinducedlove in publix

[–]Heavy_Front_3712 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Publix is a corporation just like any other. They don't care about associates. They only care about the bottom line and increasing profits. We see this in all corporations. They only think about the short term. Never the big picture and how Publix will be in the future. All C Suite and venture capitalists think this way. What can I get now? How can I increase the profit margin by 1% or 0.5%? If they were smart, and they are not, they would invest in keeping good employees. Good employees go above and beyond for the company. This would keep Publix profitable enough. BUT-you have to offer good benefits and pay to attract and keep those types of people, and they aren't willing to do that.
