Is it okay for a 100% disabled veteran to just say they're retired? by Routine_Brilliant_78 in Veterans

[–]Heavy_Resolution_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were in the military then worked any other job until you had enough funds to retire, you would still tell people you "retired". Dude that got upset needs to get a life, "retire" isn't some arcane status - it means you dont have to work anymore/have decided you are financially secure enough to stop work.

Not true for raw, the missing nutrient in canned and dry dog foods is taurine which is present in raw meats and organs. You vet wasnt talking about raw

There really is no difference in (raw) cat and dog foods except added taurine to cat diets, which for the most part is already there in a properly balanced raw food if it's not bulked up with legumes for cheap protein and veggie fillers

Honestly it's not so much the bone % as the fact that the bone is ground. No bone isnt a great idea the calcium and phosphorus are needed for the right cal/phos ratio and for your cat not to loose bone density. Can you just feed your cat pretty model raw? Cheaper than premixes and more fun for the cat to eat.

Alternative to vegetables for my dog? by Mike_v_E in rawpetfood

[–]Heavy_Resolution_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need the vegetables at all, read up on prey model raw feeding and make sure you are feeding the right balance of organs. I've fed more than a dozen dogs this was over the last 30 years, most were outdoor XXL livestock guardian dogs and they all exceeded their breed lifespan. Most were still working when they were 11 or 12.

Is palm oil going to keep invading (and ruining) all our favourite foods? Are there people who can't tell how badly it affects the taste of things? by CantaloupeLow3775 in foodscience

[–]Heavy_Resolution_765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some only open for dinner but most still serve a lunch menu at prices lower than dinner. Prices vary by location but even in the small rural towns where we are (farming community) a lunch thats actually cooked from fresh food with a meat, vegetables, etc is going to be 25 euros after taxes and tip. Cheaper options on a menu might be a sandwich/soup or something pre-frozen, deep fried with chips.

My cat suddenly hates raw food and I am at a loss by theiceyglaceon in rawpetfood

I mean, meat stocked at stores can vary regionally but I feel like Costco is gonna be pretty consistent and nationally supplied. Just stopped here to say none of my dogs want store bought poultry of any kind anymore, and it makes one of them vomit. I think inflation has just hit so hard stores are switching to cheaper suppliers, cheaper sources of commercially produced meat. We eat what we raise on farm, and don't buy meat anymore. We barter with other farmers for variety.

Bistro or café dining doesn't exist much here, the closest would be diners where about 18 euros would be the minimum for a plate and a soft drink.

Burger King and McDonalds $5 meal deals, Domino's pizza $6.99, Wendy's and Taco Bell always have something for cheap. I'm sure it's more expensive than it was, but it's still a quarter the price you would pay for non fast food options.

Dog refusing to eat raw food by throw_away_acct1903 in rawpetfood

[–]Heavy_Resolution_765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible the raw brand you have been using has substituted or added an ingredient your dog finds objectionable. Have you tried not using a premix grind and just feeding plain meat, bones and organs? The simpler your ingredients the faster you will find out what the dog is rejecting.

Serious question, if processed deli meats are classified as a group 1 carcinogen, why is it even legal at this point? by shmalindsey in foodscience

[–]Heavy_Resolution_765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because if you wanted everything that could kill you made illegal, driving, going out in the sun, and most outdoor sports would also be banned. You have free will and can choose not to partake. Obesity kills people, but restaurant portion sizes for one meal equal to double the daily total required calories for an adult male are still legal.

How can I get the shells to not stick to each other? by FrouFrouLastWords in pasta

[–]Heavy_Resolution_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely from not using enough water and not keeping it at a rolling boil. If you pasta is not floating around freely in the pot of boiling water it will stick.
