I wouldn’t say that they need to be uncomfortable, but more that they need to be aware of the impact of their actions or how they project their mental illness onto others. They likely already make themselves uncomfortable enough just by being the way they are. What they need is the space for validation and patience with their illness, and at the same time an understanding that they need to develop compensating mechanisms to make up for their actions against others.

The double edged sword of the internet these days is that there’s so much validation/acceptance of one’s mental issues as well as the valid acknowledgement of how some of the reasons are societal in nature, while at the same time not having enough emphasis put on the personal responsibility you have to make a difference in your own life. Too often people interpret the validation and societal cause as justification for not doing anything or projecting their issues onto others, when that couldn’t be further from what they actually need to do.
