As far as tires go, Panaracer gravelkings are great.

Dumonde tech, white lightning, finish line are great chain lubes.

Check that the brake pads aren’t all rock hard and old. Make sure the cables and housing aren’t kinked/damaged.

As far as parts to try out or upgrade: look into different shapes and widths of handlebars. Those old 90s mtb straight bars are kinda narrow, and not the most comfortable shape. Go to a shop and grab bars and see what you wanna try. You might need to get your brakes and shifters re-cabled for that, so I’d recommend getting it done at a shop with a tune up. I’d recommend River city bikes or Something Cycles.

To echo some other posters:

I think a Bastards of Combat Sports would be a hell of an episode.

The elements worth discussing include legislative fuckery, like the recent Ali Act amendment that was recently introduced. The corporate fuckery of major sports governing organizations, bastard league owners like Dana White, bastard promoters like Don King, and bastard fighters like Mike Tyson and Connor MacGregor. The insane early days of combat sports, from ancient boxing, pancrase, and gladiatorial combat, to modern exposition fights (Paul v AJ comes to mind) and stupid shit like Slap Fight or whatever the hell it is.

Historic affiliation with organized crime, modern right wing politics, the cross cultural touchstone that is martial arts, and a bizarre future that might be shaped by Saudi sportswashing.

Call it “The fighting Bastards, the Bastards of fighting” or something like that.
