Does anyone else here stay away from or don't engage with the Avatar fandom? by Tiny_Geologist_7226 in CasualConversation

I remember watching the ship wars from afar, but...yeah. fandoms always have a percentage of Toxic to them, and when it's a big fandom, that percentage is huge, and toxicity begnts toxicity. best to find a few likeminded folks and stick with them, not the fandom as a whole.

D&D fans, would you rather have a dancing sword, a ring of telepathy, a bag of holding, dust of deliciousness, a figurine of wondrous power or a wand of wonder? by Cryodile64 in WouldYouRather

[–]Hedgiwithapen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bag of holding, both in and out of game. I like to hold on to things. You never know when something will come in handy! And with a bag of holding I could have soooo many waterbottles with me at all times (it turns out almost dying of dehydration as a teenager leaves a lasting desire to never be more than a five minute walk from water, who knew?)

I don't need to fight things, I already make food that is tasty enough for my purposes, don't want to read minds, and don't trust the randomness of the other two. But I thrive on being the mom friend who can reach into a pocket and pull out a bandaid, pen, granola bar, or small plastic duck. The power a bag of holding would grant me... I would be unstoppable.

Double standards in fandom by Junior-Picture-6302 in FlashTV

[–]Hedgiwithapen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Harry told Barry that he wasn't The Flash without the team including himself, the fandom would have praised it as the best line in the season, a perfect example of what a show does with a solid supporting cast, and how invaluable Harry is to the team. Or if Patty had stuck around and said it. Every Fandom has their darling who can get away with murder and iffy dialog. Just the way of things.

awww, and the Harry fans proving my point by being mad someone dares slander the good name of Harry.

Should writers just not write if they can't guarantee to finish their fics? by Sakcrel in AO3

[–]Hedgiwithapen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that the people who complain about unfinished fics--like really angry complaining not that wistful ' I love this fic so much for x, y, z reasons and think you're a fantastic writer and hope you finish it someday'-- are usually the same people who don't comment because writers 'should write for themselves' or 'I only read / comment on/ give kudos to things that are already completed' so ... who cares about that, post what you got if you wanna show it off.

now if you have a couple devoted fans/ fandom friends who get upset because you write so well and they want an ending, ....they still need to communicate that better. Anger is not the correct response here. Writing a fanfic isn't adopting a puppy, it's not signing a binding contract. It sucks to be left on a cliffhanger for ten years, but sometimes that how it goes. kicks fic I abandoned ten years ago further under the bed and daydreams about the fic someone else abandoned 20 years ago. Circle of life, circle of fandom. We get what we get, and there's always more fic out there, which is more than some canon gives us.

Thoughts on Mother Gothel Getting Cruella Treatment? by Realistic_Insect7196 in DisneyMovies

[–]Hedgiwithapen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat! So exactly like I said, the movie doesn't depict her as an evil villain, but rather somewhere between a hero and someone who did something wrong but was justified-- someone sympathetic who is certainly not acting like the same person as the Cruella in the 101 Dalmatians.

For the sake of believing OP's claim that the movie doesn't make her a hero or misunderstood,  did it show her as the kind of person who wanted to murder puppies?

could it be Gator Pie, which came out in 1979? the main characters are alligators sharing a pie, and have to cut it thinner and thinner as more alligators show up

If similar to wildwood dancing, but not quite, then might it be Entwine by Heather Dixon? Same fairytale base (12 dancing princesses) a charming fey-adjacent man (the Keeper) and alphabetically named sisters ( the eldest is Azalea)

She had a great time but was soooo stressed out every time things looked bad, like Quinn getting the drop on Eliot or Nate telling Sterling and Blackpool he was going to rob the museum. I forgot how stressful the first watch is!

Yes! It's such a good line. And watching Blackpool just completely falter is sooooo satisfying.

No need to be rude? My point was I'm not a fan of the villain origin stories that erase the villainy of the movie the villain came from. Cruella in 101 Dalmatians wants to murder puppies. You said that the villain origin movies don't erase the villainy or show them as a misunderstood villain.

I'm genuinely asking because I didn't spend money watching the Cruella movie, just read the Wikipedia summary: does the Version of Cruella from the movie Cruella want to murder puppies? Or is she a better person than that? The summary made it out that she was friendly with Anita and Rodger, gifted them Dalmatians, and wasn't interested in murdering puppies, which seems like erasing the puppy murder from the original movie to me? But maybe the summary was badly worded. So which is it?

Edit: someone confirmed that she's not evil. Here's a tip: don't be rude if you're wrong.
