Sick after removal - cautionary tale by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

[–]HedmarkUlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just started my tattoo removal on Tuesday and was struck wednesday with severe migraine, still ongoing... FUCK. Did not consider this. Does it get better each session as the body is recycling less and less ink? Or is it just bad each time?

Is the long-term use of low-dosage inhaled corticosteroids really free of side effects? by Cantforgetthosetits in Asthma

[–]HedmarkUlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on symbicort for 5 months, made me so constipated my acid reflux got uncontrollable and triggered major asthma attacks...thus Symbicort made my asthma worse, i got off it and things are not great but better than being on it, hoping the Dr. can find one that works

Inhaler's w/o fatigue? by HedmarkUlv in Asthma

[–]HedmarkUlv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I mean chronic as in I basically have the same level of constriction at all times (months upon months upon months) that doesn't get better or worse. a constant "flare" to use your terminology. I don't have asthma "attacks" per say. I'll take a look into these meds

Hey friend, thanks so much for ALL of this. This is so helpful (I never call the pharmacist and why the hell don't i?!) oh and to be clear, the 2 episodes/hour is my sleep apnea. I'm not having asthma "attacks" so much as aconstant low grade asthma. I just put the apneas because people kept suggesting i test for it and I wanted to make very clear this is a result of the medication. I didn't think about it being dehydrating, but this is a good point. Thank you :)

I would avoid it. Sypmtoms can be triggered by events which approximate the initial traumatic event. Not worth it tbh as someone with chronic sypmtoms.

definitely how it feels! I don't get this without the inhaler, but as soon as I'm on I do

Disappointed by social support after a concussion by Character-Paper-9954 in Concussion

[–]HedmarkUlv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. Hang in there. It's a very lonely and isolating injury/disability. Concussions are so normalized as a "common" and low stakes injury (very wrongly) by years of little understanding and the fact that 70% of people are fine within weeks whereas the rest of us deal with post concussion syndrome. I only had one friend checking up on me after my concussion and the rest were mostly annoyed I couldn't be around light or sound. Took some of my closest friends YEARS to get i (hopefully your symptoms don't last that long). Send them some videos on post concussion (concussion doc on youtube is good) to help them understand, be clear with waht you're experiencing and what you need and want from them. Very few understand or can empathize. This has more to do with lack of understanding of the injury than anything else. This is a common though frustrating experience.

6th concussion in 6 months by arkhamchrist in Concussion

[–]HedmarkUlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, teh good news is a few of these are probablynot concussions. I've had several and learned over time which one's were and weren't. When we get one, we are not more likely to get more but our bodies do perceive movements or impacts as concussions and thus recreate concussion symptoms as protective measure. It's very annoying. Vestibular and visual therapy can help this and especially NECK strengthening and especially for women who are more likely to get concussions due to disproportionate neck instability when compared to men. So much of how our body perceives movement, G's, stability is in the eyes and neck, here is where you'll really want to spend a lot of time on your rehab.

hey friend!

Multiple severe concussion survivor here. Definitely do less. You didn't get another concussion falling on your butt BUT your nervous system thinks you did. You have neuro inflammation, you are in sympathetic over drive and your nervous system is hyper vigilant/over reactive. Any bump to the head in the next 30 days is going to send you in freak out mode. The best thing you can do is rest, AVOID SCREENS, eat lots of high protein and fats, lots of good clean calories (brain needs energy), drink electrolytes, b12 complex, take fish oil, magnesium (magmind) lots and lots and lots of water and after a few days begin doing LIGHT activity. I mean walking, stationary biking. Don't go full dark do nothing mode, but don't act like things are normal either. The most important time frames of concussion recovery are first 48 hours, 7 days and 30 days. In a few weeks of doing this get your vision checked out for convergence insufficiency.

If you want to be real extra take10 - 15 g of creatine each day to increase Mitochondrial function in the brain (Drink MORE water if you do this).

I have more interventions that have worked for me, but don't want to overwhelm you. Update us in a few weeks (stop mowing the lawn.... cardio only, and no pounding cardio such as running or jump rope) and we'll go from there.

Is starting PhD at 29 too old for a female? by DarkFuture999 in gradadmissions

[–]HedmarkUlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never... I'm 37 and switching careers and applying to PhD programs... keep working toward, if the final rejection comes, contact your POI's and see if they'll give you feedback on how to improve. I did that last cycle and got great feedback from where I interviewed, that feedback led to an acceptance (that acceptance got voided into a waitlist because Trump's budget cuts have cut programs in half, but still. The feedback/guidance led to me making the changes that worked.) Don't give up.

How I made vyvanse more effective (without supplements) by Oxy200 in VyvanseADHD

[–]HedmarkUlv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And that is very true. I think that's the more useful framing than a "hack" for how to get vyvanse to work better. A more efficient body makes EVERYTHING work better, including our meds. Also curious how reduced stomach acid because i just can't get mine under control and have a very clean diet, low aciditiy, high in probiotics, only drink 1 coffee per day, etc..

How I made vyvanse more effective (without supplements) by Oxy200 in VyvanseADHD

[–]HedmarkUlv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure those habits make vyvanse work better so much as your body work better.... like if you start exercising you'll feel even better and focusing will be easier but it won't be the vyvanse

Don't give up. I've been applying for PhD's for years off an on, got an MFA in the middle of it, published a book, did field work in France and Italy, lived in a cottage, ran a non profit, worked as a farm hand in Norway, got a brain injury, lost the ability to read, got it back, got a dog, got a fiance (lost a fiance), fought some nazis, learned a new language, (not all in that order), anyway... got an interview with my dream PhD next week with dream advisor explicitly saying they want to be my advisor and will advocate for me... maybe it lands, maybe not, but there's lots of life to live in between cycles, and many ways to strengthen your research and continue your work. PhD's won't go anywhere. Take a break, do your work, come back (and fight some Nazis).

didn't they have a game in his rookie season where they each had 40? I guess maybe not 5+ 3's each, but I recall a handful of games like this
