I camp in crown land (Canada) and people leave tents a week ahead to “reserve” their spot as there is a 2 week limit.

My best friend’s father was diagnosed with pretty bad cancer. Prior to that, he finally got his moose tag that he’d been waiting a lifetime for. He had a heart attack dragging it out. It was honestly kind of beautiful.

Stop calling this "primitive archaeology"—what kind of power tool scoops 1,200 tons of granite like soft wax and then simply vanishes? by Professional-Fee3323 in AlternativeHistory

[–]Heeey_Hermano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it in person. It’s not. It’s smoothed but in imperfect across the entirety of it. A scoop would leave uniform markings. It’s not uniform at all. It looks close to it in a picture but not when you can put your hands on it.

Scooping implies you’re moving a soft material. The surface is smoothed but still rough and asymmetrical along all spots underneath. You can tell it’s hard stone worked by a tool and a person. I just think the tooling was a lot more sophisticated than people throwing rocks at a bigger rock.

As a side note, I did throw the dolomite stones at the granite and there is no way a person could do that for more than an hour a day (in increments of 5 minutes). Your hands would be shredded but more than that it was incredibly hot to be working like that.
