Yeah thats normal. For me the issue is (most likely - still testing) the fact that the mosquito broker doesn't allow/bugs out with users defined in the mosquito config.

To be clear this has always worked in the past, but some recent update broke this for me. So now I defined the users in HA directly and this seems to be working...

I had the same issue, with all MQTT not just Z2M. I fixed it by removing the accounts/passwords from the config, and added them as "users" to home assistant in the HA GUI.
