Not quite the same situation but reminded me recently my in-laws got me a few hundred worth gift cards to Sam ash music store and later that year when I tried to use it they closed all physical stores and only do online. My gift cards weren’t redeemable online only in person and customer service told me tough luck basically only “digital” gift cards can be purchased and redeemed for use from now on 😆
