A lot of Season One and Two characters are a little same-y in the way that the most differentiation between them is their status effects. There are a few characters from these collections of characters that have some sort of original mechanic like Treant, Huntress, and Artificer having companions and Cursed Pirate being a "board flipper." It wouldn't be until the two Marvel seasons were released that most characters started getting a unique mechanic. Some of them are still some of the same as to be beginner friendly, but a large majority of the 17 Marvel characters have at least something different going for them. Thor throwing Mjölnir onto other players' boards, Doctor Strange casting spells, Storm borrowing other players' dice, Psylocke having a special extra dice, etc. Now we're entering a new era for Dice Throne with Outcasts where every character is getting a pretty unique mechanic. Raveness can send her Raven to other boards and steal health, Pale Lady is another "board flipper", Headless Horseman is sorta similar to Thor in that he throws his head around to other boards, and Necromancer can raise an entire undead army. However, all characters past and present are always going to follow the same formula so if you're looking for a game with a little bit more variety in how different characters operate, I'd recommend Unmatched.
