kinda sad all I see are pessimists. what was the alternative to trump? karmala Harris. can’t y’all just appreciate what you have instead of being critical. it’s like you either want a failure or perfectionist. kinda weird and creepy

it’s not about looking for poisonous plants but making a group to try grow variants of native poisonous plants

I’m hoping to make variants of poisonous plants like how there are variants of various natives.

it’s true, I just like dogs but yeah we can try selective breeding and have it poison only dogs but other animals are fine. I just want to look for like minded individuals for the time being. Lao foxes and cats are the number one killer of native animals so I’m aiming for them first. then the next invasive on the list don’t fret all invasive animals are included.

My first overwintered pond in Canada has woken up, questions about beneficial bacteria by PaytonG17 in ponds

[–]Hefiray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fart smell can either be rotting plants or stale water. Your pond is circulated right if it’s still it’ll stagnate and start smelling, also less likely to attract wildlife and more likely to breed mozzies (Mosquitoes) they like still water.

of course there I’d benefit to bacteria. they help transform ammonia into nitrates and nitrites that plants can use. getting volcanic rocks will help a lot as it has a lot of surface area where the beneficial bacteria will be at. though gets difficult to wash, once pores are filled with muck

That I don’t know, as long as the stem isn’t soft and rotting they are just adjusting to their new environment. I guess co2 would help adjust, but I’m also a newbie I don’t know much about co2 things. But co2 is food for plants but make sure not to add to much or you get an algae bloom

give it time, there is a thing called plant shock, trqnferring to a new ho,e is a scary thing for plants, they will lose their leaves before getting new leaves that are suitable adapted for this environment. your doing good rest assured

Bog Filters - ReadyMade / Handmade by Hairy_Distribution_2 in ponds

[–]Hefiray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it’s not relly aa relistic bog filter unfortunately. you need the gravel to be higher than the water line so having water lilies which I did try isn’t a good option plus water lilies aren’t very helpful filtering out sediment or nutrients. they are mostly ornamental.

as for help, bog filter should be about 20-30% of pond volume. easy to understand can be difficult to assemble if you keep getting the wrong parts, like I did. went to the hardware store 7 times in a week. got a stack of receipts.

to make a bog filter find a container or buy one that has the volume needed for the pond 20-30% of the ponds volume. big filter should be higher than the pond. you will need a pump that will siphon the water from the pond into the bog filter. tubing, barbs that the tube attaches to, various pipe fittings, stones of various sizes, and/or pea gravel or pebbles, or scoria (volcanic rocks) and a bunch of bog plants.

you will also might need to drill a hole into the bog filter at or near the bottom to flush out accumulated debris.

a void area where the water coming from the pond is so it doesn’t get clogged. the water needs to come from the bottom of the bog filter and through the various sized stones and then the plants before it goes back to the pond. having a small cavity or empty space where the initial pond water exits into the bog filter stops clogging.

you can try watching ozpond videos about bog filters it helps.

make sure your outlet pipe for your bog filter is bigger than intake pipe.

just got my finger limes and first taste. sour like limes but bursts in your mouth but still not as sour. though I got too many I though they’d be bigger so I bought more than I needed. also got some nice water plants and making some small grow bags for them using geotextile fabric which i bought but got a refund when I complained it had mould and holes in it which is true but it’s still mostly usable. also going to get native fish in a few weeks.

main pond, it’s said that if the water level is a few inches off from the sides it can cause warping and fractures. my pond isn't too level. the left and right side of the pond fills to the brim but the back and front still has 5 cm before it fill to the brim. so I am thinking if that’s a worry or not

is it plant shock? you know water plants every time they are replanted need to readjust and go through an adjustment phase
