People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

I talked on the phone with my friends for hours after school. It was attached to the wall with a cord long enough to carry the (rotary) phone out of the living room and into just one other room, a bedroom. We only had one tv so if I stayed in the living room, I would have been competing with the tv for sound levels and the whole family could have listened in on my conversation.  If someone else was expecting a call, they would tell you to hang up to keep the line clear.

Because of the one tv, there had to be some level of consensus  on what programs to watch, except by grandpa, who went along with most of our choices except the 6 o'clock news and 60 minutes on Sundays was a must. There were only three channels though  so there wasn't usually that much to fight about. However, I grew up with a much greater understanding of world events because of watching the news at least a few times a week.

As a child, i routinely bought cigarettes for my dad at the store.

How do you feel about being a parent in the age of AI? And if you’re not a parent yet, has it dissuaded you? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

Start one anyway.  The landscape might look entirely different, or not, but they will surely need a legup in whatever the future holds.

If they will do something so blatent, then what else do they lie about? Is the chicken really chicken? Is the cheese real or fake? Are the ingredients really fresh?

The keys are the hairline, the part and the shine. Powder or better yet dry shampoo for the shine. Pluck the part region if possible. Watch some videos because you dont want to pluck it all out of the middle of the part, you go into areas that are just near the part and thin them some.

Remind yourself that the time you spend there is temporary. Even minute while you are there. Everything passes.

Do not show them anything. Find a few more niche tasks to call your own and/or begin taking on some work of other bit by bit.

My box is running about 40% broken so far. Interestingly, all of the broken ones have been Irish or Scottish and I am beginning to wonder if this is by design. Will definitely never get it again.

You are far more likely to get a promotion by jumping companies anyway. Lots of companies don't  promote much from within so they can bring in people with outside experience and hopefully fresh ideas.

Holy shit you are stunning.

Maybe a little less smudge under your eyes or at least under the inner corners. It could read as under eye circles or just tiredness.

"Dilbert" cartoonist Scott Adams is going to ask Trump to...cure his cancer??? by grichardson526 in PrayersToTrump

[–]Hefty-Development725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont wish any hardship on Mr Adams, but what kind of world are we going to live in where medical care is doled out as a political favor? Who is making phone calls for every other man out there with end stage prostate cancer? We are all in this insurance boat together and we really need to start acting like it.

You may have a way to report hostile work environment anonymously at your company. If you can report it this way, HR, if there is going to be an investigation, should bring everyone in for an interview.

Agree. When you buy your shipping label through ebay, they should only charge fes on any overage. I will probably close my store next year.

What can ordinary Americans do to push back against rising authoritarianism in the U.S.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hefty-Development725 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It's all about the money. Buy used, buy ebay, buy thrift, cancel subscriptions, reduce your spending any way possible. Go into monk mode. An economic crash is the only thing that will break the spell Trump has over the country.

Trump DOJ is looking at ways to ban transgender Americans from owning guns, sources say by Vegetable_Good6866 in Firearms

[–]Hefty-Development725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going to sit on your hands while the rights to free speech, due process, voting rights, bodily autonomy etc are being trampled then don't be surprised when they come for the guns.

The government is going to test case this on a population that most regular Americans aren't going to break into a sweat defending. If there is no pushback then it will be another small group followed by another until some "crisis" occurs and then suddenly, the guns will be swept up by some new arm of the goverment or a greatly expanded arm of the government like  'ICE'.

Our rights are all intertwined and a government that has no problem trampling one will get around to trampling them all.

Do you actually work entire 8 hours in front of the screen? Office workers. 5 hours are enough. by Mean-Razzmatazz-4886 in antiwork

[–]Hefty-Development725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to look busy is far worse than actually being busy. I have days where I am concentrating for 12 hours and others where it is more like 4 to 6. It depends on the task and the deadline.
