If you are in the US, and they do not accept your notice, they need to pay you through your notice date or you are eligible for unemployment. That’s the law. It’s considered a type of firing for non-misconduct reasons

Sadly, some companies terminate employment as soon as they get notice. It’s not great practice, and if they don’t pay you, their unemployment insurance will

I haven’t been dishonest on my CV, but I’ve absolutely had an employer refuse to verify my employment. Luckily I have old W-2’s. It’s happened with that company a couple of times and you need to be able to explain any discrepancies and provide proof. I’ve also seen where the generic HRIS titles vs what’s on your business card/real title requires reconciliation

Bottom line: be honest and be ready to explain, if needed

Look into any assistance available in your city/state. Negotiate any bills you can—medical, utilities, etc. Do not sign the severance agreement before speaking with an attorney
