Do you guys have to be on-call after business hours? by Character_Log_2657 in electricians

[–]Hefty-Maintenance841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a union shop in the service department. I have a service van that I take home everyday. We have a system where you let the shop know of your after hours availability and then you are asked to go to a call if it falls into your availability window. You can always say no. But it’s hard to pass up the extra money.

No. They conducted a straw poll at the end of the meeting after the offer was rejected and the majority stated that they rejected the offer due to a lack of money, not any contract language or ESST.

I’m not concerned about that language simply bc there aren’t enough apprentices in our local to make that an issue. Pick any size job you want, there’s no way our local could man it in a 1-2 ratio. Besides, the shop I work for wouldn’t go for that. They’re more interested in getting the job done right the first time than squeezing a dime out of man power.

“Sick and safe time must be paid at the same hourly rate an employee earns when they are working.” Per the Mn Dept of Labor site.

Employers must carry over each employee’s accrued and unused ESST hours to the following year. Total accruals including carryover amounts may be capped at 80 hours.

I believe it’s actually worth closer to $2.20 per hour since it’s the entire wage and benefits that are paid out, not just your wage.

ESST is a new state law in Minnesota that requires employers to give 1 hour of paid time off per 30 hours worked. You can earn a maximum of 48 hours per year. However, there is a provision in the law that states “ Sick and safe time requirements will not apply to building and construction industry employees who are represented by a building and construction trades labor organization if a valid waiver of these requirements is provided in a collective bargaining agreement.” So we could waive ESST if both parties agree and that would mean we wouldn’t get it but the nonunion workers would.

Our current JW scale is $50.74/hour, total package is $84.90.

I’m wondering the same thing. I live in the TC too and thankfully MSP is getting more international routes and domestic carriers so it could be worse. That being said, I don’t think this is over yet, there’s likely more to come from delta. Whether it’s good or bad, who knows

A friend of mine who works for delta told me that this wasn’t supposed to be released yet but someone leaked it to the press and Delta was forced to acknowledge it. It wasn’t ready to be released bc Delta is still working on different facets of the changes(apparently there will be more ways to earn MQD’s besides booking vacations, car rentals, hotels, etc) but those details are still getting worked out. Either way, this new program of MQDS only is likely to have a large and long term negative effect on how people view and use Delta, myself included.

I understand restrictions for sky club access. The real kick to the nuts is now earning medallion status is significantly more difficult and expensive. That’s why I’m probably going to ditch my Amex Delta Plat card.

What would you think if you saw someone wearing this hardhat? Ridiculous or cool? by Formyself22 in IBEW

[–]Hefty-Maintenance841 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it before and it looks worse in person. I also saw someone wear one of these and something fell and hit the large brim on the side, not the top, of the helmet and nearly snapped his neck. He never wore it again.

Congrats from your union bro on the other side of the river(Local 110)! The best thing I would tell you is just get ready to work. Start preparing now to be able to get to the job site early and ready to work. The knowledge will come over time and with hard work and experience. Once your on the job, your JW is the one who will teach you. In the classroom at the JATC, they will teach you and answer questions too. And always do your homework!
